I saw this guy 2 years ago during muzzle loader season, and then again last year on this very day (also Muzzy season). Neither time could I get a shot. I knew he ruled this back corner of our lease, but in the past 3 years I could only get him on camera once.

Not much of a story to share, just another lucky harvest. He was behind me walking down a ridge from my right to left, ending up in a gully directly to my six. (The pic below shows this somewhat.) I knew instantly it was him b/c he has this massive left side. (That is why I call him Schwarber.) He was only 50 yards, but it was so thick I only had the smallest of slivers in which to shoot. The minute he walked into that sliver I pulled the trigger. I was a bit high and right, but got both lungs and he was DRT.

200lbs and a massive buck for these parts.

Wow, what a stud of a deer! Damn that’s a once in a lifetime opportunity that you pulled off extremely well!
In Idaho we have only been able to use round ball, or conical bullets until just this year. What was allowed had to be within .010” of the bore diameter, and could be tipped. But I don’t plan on changing what I’ve been using because for me and the rifle I use it’s more than accurate to easily take game at 120-150 yards.
Congratulations on a fine victory in taking what is a real trophy!
