A friend of mine texted me an ad for this and I didn't know it existed. Anybody know, seen, handled one of these? I searched CVA website and read about it. Just wondered if, what any of you guys had to say. Friend is interested in it.

A buddy has a CVA Cascade in 7-08. He brought it over last summer to get it zeroed in. With inexpensive PPU 140 gr ammunition, it was shooting .7" groups. Needless to say, I was impressed.
It's a nice rifle, especially at the price point it's at.
I would think that the 35 Whelen offering would be a good one.

There is something about the 35. I’ve been looking for one in a number one for a while. To date they are all fetching quite a premium. I’m to the point where Im shopping for a donor, they all use the same action/receiver and send it off for new barrel. Cheaper than just buying the Whelen #1.

I looked on their website and they are listed at 7.3 lbs and a 1 in 14 twist should be great for all but the really heavy mono bullets from Hammer and others. It will be fine for the vast majority of 35 cal bullets out there. The CVA Cascade seems to have a very good reputation too.

I think I read somewhere that the Cascade is made by Bergara for CVA.

You're not the only one looking for a #1 in .35 Whelen. My very first #1 was also the first one I'd ever seen. They'd been out for some time but none of the LGS in Northern Nevada had one in stock. I found the one I got in 1975 and have never gotten it to shoot worth a damn. I found another at a gun show and it too is a lousy shooter when it comes to accuracy. Both are in 30-06 BTW. Every once in a while I get to thinking one of those might make a good donor for a Whelen. Problem is, would the price of a rebore fix the problem or be a waste?

A top end barrel from PAC Nor is a little over 400 bucks. Send them your rifle and they’ll instal the barrel for another 300. It will be a far better barrel than drilling a big hole in a bad barrel in my opinion. I’m looking for good wood, a 1A configuration all the better if its based on any cartridge with 473 case head, then I don’t have to change the ejector.

Welcome aboard, now I have to go look up Nanook actions. :) that is a new one on me.
I appreciate the welcome. I’d never heard of them either until I came across them on the Preferred website. Did some research and they seem like a really good action. I’ll stick it in a Grayboe phoenix 2 and mount a Z6 on it and should be good to go for my aoudad hunt the end of February

Sounds like an interesting build.
Looking forward to your results and aoudad adventure story.
You don't often hear of someone building a 35 Whelen for an sheep/goat hunt...what length of barrel? And which bullet do you plan on using for it?
(With their reputation for being tough, I cannot fault your reasoning for some classic (35 cal) thump on a stout animal like the aoudad. Always good to anchor a tough animal in cliff country!)

Everyone I hunt with tells me the same thing about using a 35 whelen on my aoudad hunt when I have perfectly good 7 prc. It has a 24” 1 in 14” twist barrel and I plan on using the 225g AccuBond or 250g Partition (whichever the gun likes better). I’ve also ordered the 200g TTSX’s to try out. Should be able to put some thump on it.
