Looking for some pointers from folks who load these. I picked a box a few months ago but haven't loaded any yet. I'm planning to try a couple of ladders with varget and w748. Anybody have loads they like for these powders? I'm looking at the nosler load data, varget shows a max load of 25grns, w748 shows 26. Both seem higher what I'm seeing from Hogdon. Sierra has some similar max loads listed under AR15 loads, so I'm wondering if the 25 grn and 26 grn are actually for 5.56 pressures? I've got an accurate load for 69grn TMKs running 23 of varget, so that's kinda what I'm thinking, but would love to hear anybody's input who actually loads these on what works for them.

Bolt gun or AR?

I've used up to 25.3 VarGet behind the Berger 73 BT in a Remington 700 Mil-Spec rifle that has a 24" bbl, but I ended up lowering it down to 24.2 last year as I decided to reduce the charge because the barrel sped up from when I first developed the load.

Thanks LRH, I ran my ladder upto 25 of varget on the TMKs, but the the groups started opening up above 23, above 24 they really opened up. 23 I was getting .75 at 100, 24 was getting 1.1, 25 was 2 inch. It will be for a bolt gun only. I'll try it upto 25 and see if the accubonds shoot.

I haven't played with the 224 Accubonds before, but it has been a favorite hunting bullet for about 20 years now. I've found it best to treat them like a TSX and keep them off the lands at least 0.050" for best accuracy.

I wouldn't worry as much about your max charge difference as you are using the actual bullet in the data. I wouldn't use the 70gr AccuBond data for the Speer FB 70gr that's been around, but you're doing it the right way. It sounds like you have a rough idea what your gun can handle with the TMKs, I wouldn't have any qualms about starting around 23 and doing half grain jumps to see groups. I'd probably do 4 shot groups just due to cost of the bullets.

They'll stack up eventually. Might not hurt to do a good bore scrub down since you're switching bullets and manufacturers.
