Salmon at Plympton Creek

Brings back memories! I worked at the mill just down the road back when it was know as the James River Mill back in ‘88. I would go to the creek and eat my lunch and watch the salmon.

When I was in high school and college, get that first big Pacific Storm come in during late September into early October the Alsea, Siletz and Nestucca would fill up with Silvers. Had a spot on Fall Creek just below Hwy 34. You didn’t even have to cast, just let your spinner float back on the current and flutter in the channel. It wouldn’t take long. Catch a limit of silvers and then go drive the logging roads and find a blacktail buck. Made for a good Saturday. Don’t know if we’ll ever see salmon runs like that again. Good to see there are a few small streams with fish. It is an amazing thing to see.
