Nice!
I wanted a Weatherby for a long time, but I don't think that I will be lusting for one now... Enjoying my 25-06 Sako 85 (SS, grey laminate) too much. Have to admit that I was a little dubious about that skinny little barrel at first but it has proven to be a shooter.
Cheers :)
ldg,
I have a couple of laminated varmint 85's in 308 and 223. Nice rifles that I bought on look and feel as much as anything else. << Important criteria to me - I have to be able to like it. :)
I have only spent a few minutes with a 75 (as long as the 85 at the time), but got the impression...
Jim, that is certainly a very nice trophy. Please tell.
Cheers
PS <chucklestoself> Jim was probably standing about 6 feet or so behind the buffalo making it look really huge (which I am sure it was). :)
Mike,
The first link is to a simple twist rate spreadsheet.
The second is to a more sophisticated bullet design spreadsheet.

Cloverleaf, great description! So how did that pronghorn taste?
It is always the buffalo and camels that get my heart pounding.
My vote goes to the buffalo.

Something else that I have been mulling over is possibility that in a comparison of various optics at different latitudes and altitudes and enviornments (say snow to forest or desert) can yield different results in their performance and how we would rate them.
For example, I live roughly 17...
Jim,
I have a few friends who are Pentax users and have had the opportunity to rattle of a few rolls of film. Nice gear.
That is what I suspected/expected of the Nikon rifle scopes and that is what I thought. Nice but nothing exceptional. If they are anything like their photography arm then...
Jim,
On Nikon SLR I use ZF Distagon T* 25/2.8 and 35/2, ZF Planar T* 50/1.4 and 85/1.4, plus a ZF Makro-Planar T* 100/2. I also have the equivalent Nikon D Lenses (24/2.8, 35/2, 50/1.4, 85/1.4 and 105/2DC). As far as a comparison of coatings goes, they are on par. The difference lies in other...
Aha..
There are better ways to make a difference than to get mad in a forum. The voice of reason goes a lot further than hysterics which only serve to reinforce the idea (to some anyway) that gun owners are all homicidal maniacs.
People do not like to be "taught" - read that as being "told" or...
So, you are upset about something that you read on the internet, and someone pissed you off at work...
Smitty, life is too short.

PS. Did you manage to find out what caliber was used?
You have given no indication of your intended usage (shooting range, enviornment, low light requirements, preferred reticle, method of range finding...) or preferred budget. It helps a lot to have a clear idea of your requirements and how far you are willing sacrifice one thing to gain another...
Sako 85 Stainless Varmint in .308Win. I took my first water buffalo (fat cow - guesstimate 300kg+ clean) with this rifle this week. Head shot at 80m with 150gn BT.
Cheers
HunterJim,
Kangaroo shooting in Australia is conducted at night and I am fairly sure that it is the only time that it is legal to take them. Not exactly African game but an adventure and experience none the less. Top End tour operators also have buffalo on offer.
For photography, I shoot Nikon...
Hi Guys,
Follow up from my previous post.
The deal for the Tikkas fell through. The dealer from whom I was making the purchase messed me around with promises, lies and finally price increases. That was the end of that.
A couple of weeks later I was in Adelaide and dropped into a dealer that I...

Not in the glass business... Just a keen photographer (and occasional pro) who has spent more money than I would care to admit to on finding the right lenses.
