The oregon trail true shot bullets that I'm using are 0.430" in diameter. Usually the lead bullets will run a little bit larger than their jacketed counterparts. Most of the cast bullets that I see are 0.430".
They really are great bullets. The frontal area really slams game and they will penetrate any animal they hit. They cause a cavitating woung channel that some say is more lethal than an expanding one. Their velocity is also great too.
My new favorite load in my 629 smith is 21.3 grains ww296, mag primer and a 310 grain trueshot slug by oregon trail. I'm seeing 1375 fps with great accuracy. I killed one deer with this load last season and it is really effective. I also really like 24.3 grains ww 296 with any 240 grain slug...
Very nice setup. Very similar to mine except I have a 3" version with synthetic stocks. These rem's are shooters as evidenced by your patterns. Very effective to say the least.
The little 95bt will do the deed on deer. My daughter bang-flopped 3 deer in the last 2 years with it. All shots were from 99 to 153 yards. The 95's work perfect as they are never outside of their performance range with these youth rifles.
Nothing wrong with that group. Don't be scared of the slow powder and the short barrel. They work great together. The 243 is a high pressure round and a 20" barrel seems to be just about perfect.
beretzs. I'm shooting 44.0 grains of imr 7828 in my daughters m700 youth. It has a 20" barrel and I'm getting 2800 out of the 95 bt in it. She shoots 1/2" groups at 100 yards and 1.5" at 250 yards and she's 13. I can cut ragged holes with it. Imr 7828 really shoots and It's downloaded for her...
I agree ridge. Rl-22 has given me some pretty good velocity swings as well as lot to lot consistency issues. RL-25 is the ticket for me, but retumbo and H1000 are stellar also.
I always shoot in my dope. A computer program is never 100%, but the bc that the manufacturer gives you is always a great starting point. I've never been that far off to 600 yards. Maybe a click or two, but not off the target. Start at 200 yards and move out 100 yards at a time to whatever...
338 win Vanguard topped with a Zeiss 3.5 x 10 x 50. I would shoot a 250 accubond(very tough bullet) at 2700 fps. I think the guide would be happy of where he is at because I could probably get 2 more shots in him after a devastating first one. I'm aiming with a 200 yard zero at his front...
Well, this shot I can do with my equipment. I would go prone and shoot off a backpack for stability. I would use my 257 wby accumark topped with a Bushnell Elite 6500 2.5 x 16 x 50 scope. The load would be 115 bergers @ 3300 fps. I shoot a 300 yard zero, so 350 yards puts me 3.5" low. I would...
Thanks Guy. I really appreciate the input from you guys on the front lines. I really have no experience with target rifles. My experience and knowledge comes from years of silhouette shooting with a handgun, XP-100's. These handguns are as accurate as they come, but are not rifles. Thanks for...
Lilja is one of my serious considerations. I've had two guns with Lilja barrels and they were fast and accurate. Very smooth bores. I'm just wondering on delivery times for any of them. I'll be making some contacts soon to find out. This project will take me a while because I'm going to piece it...
JD, I'm actually leaning towards a Hart or Lilja. I have friends that have experience with these and they are shooters. I have experience with Shilen, but I've heard that their quality is hit and miss somewhat these days. You also have a Hart shooter. I'm looking into a 1-11" 30 cal about 27.5"...
Thanks for the response guys. I've heard stories of just how hard it is to get a barrel right now. I may just order my barrel now and have it when I get the work done at a later date. You guys have maybe changed my mind on barrel manufacturer though based on your experience. I'm even leaning...
