I took the Nosler Varmint M48 to our Forum Shoot today and out shot every other rifle there, including the ones with the $1500 NF scopes and $600 stocks etc. We were shooting at 100 yards.
Since the first day I got the M48, I've shot nothing but Nosler 50 Grain Ballistic Tips bullets launched...
I did not kill the bear guys! Here is the link to the outfitter responsible for this hunt. He is in the Northeastern portion of North Carolina near Creswell. They probably have the highest density of bears in the state.
The owners name is Mike Noles...
I didn't kill him but thought some of you might be interested in seeing him. He is a great bear! The world record Black Bear weighing 880 pounds was killed about 40 miles from my home 11 years ago.
The bear here have access to plenty of corn, wheat and soybeans. They are also famous for raiding...
Thank you. I plan to shoot again this week from some sand bags. As tight as this rifle is grouping from a frame rest, it is surely bound to do better off of bags.
I've always used 54 grains of Winchester 760 powder under a Nosler 150 GR BT and a CCI Large Rifle Primer. I've never had the need to chrono any of them but they will shoot a MOA with no problem and I've killed many deer in the 250 yard range and a couple beyond 300 yards. Incidently, that...
JD338,
I tried the 36 grains of Varget today at the range. While I was able to shoot about a 3/4 inch group, the M48 seems to like the Win 760 the best. My groupings were well inside of 3/8inch again today with that combination of 760 and 50 gr BT's. Thanks again for the input.
The Hodgdon load data actually shows 37.5 grains as a max load on a 50 gr. bullet so 36 should be ok. In fact, they show almost 36 grains on a 60 grain bullet which would generate higher pressures than the 36 on the 50 grain. At any rate, I'll heed your advice.
Thanks again!
I'm thrilled with the entire rifle. Many of the stocks on many rifles have cheekplates etc. that you really cannot feel or are improperly contoured. Every little curve and angle on this stock has a place and a function. The Timney trigger is as crisp as a corn flake! Less than 2 lbs of pull. I...
