While I have a lot of the cleaning gear I don't clean my rifle barrels very often and they seem to still shoot well.
If I rifles accuracy went bad then I would check for what was loose. I might clean the barrel after that.
SakoSteve270wsm,
I don't agree at all that the eyebox on the Leu. is at all better than a Zeiss Conquest.
I have 10 Leupold scopes all purchased before the Conquests came out. Now I have 7 Zeiss.
To each his own.
There are way more than only two choices.
The Zeiss Conquests are superior optically to the Leupold by a wide margin.
The reticules in Leu. scopes fade to pink when trying to look towards light! Leupold has discontinued the VX series as its design is obsolete and their cheaper scopes are...
DrMike,
I always admired and favored the M70 Featherweights and in fact I have hunted with my pre 64 so chambered for decades. I see that the listed weight of the 30-06 Featherweight is 6 lbs 12 oz which is the same as the original.
Thats a good rifle weight or at least it was to me now that...
C.Smith,
I had a 30-06 AI made up. I can't see any significant improvement. A few more grains goes in and thats about all. Its more of a hobby thing than anything.
Here am I telling you not to do it and I had the 'fun' of it. So it goes.
Bottom line of it all common sense wise is to...
Every FL die for a belted case that I have ever used pushes the shoulder back too much. The effect is excessive headspace and early case failure at the expansion web.
I FL size my belted brass only enough to easily chamber it. Don't set the FL right down to the shell holder. Size a case and...
corbin9191,
Some of the Winchester WSM's have out of round chambers. I won't matter much if you never handload. If you might ask to see some fired cases and measure them on the lower body.
I have had rifles in both cartridges for a long time. My 264 is a Westerner with the 26" long heavy barrel. Its a superb stand gun but heavy for all day handling.
A 7mm mag can get by with a 24" tube in my view. The 7mm has more bullet choices. Get what you want and make it work.
The Berger VLD's are working great for me. The bullet got proven by actual use.
Now they are making VLD's in .277" and I have some loaded up for the 270 WSM. The Berger VLD has an excellent ballistic coefficient.
The 7mm Remington Magnum took off in popularity because it shoots as flat as a 300 magnum and kicks less. This was the idea of it from its promoters and it caught on.
Its a good cartridge. It blasts them dead just fine.
There were a number if riflemen who promoted the cartridge and got...
I have a battery of pre 64 M70's, 99F's, and others. Now that I have got older the Kimbers appealed to me so I have a few of them as they weigh less.
Here are a few at the range.
The rifle on top is a ZB Brno 22F in 8-57S. It has a 20.5" barrel, full stock and I had a Dakota 3 position...
