well we got the bear back today, but no bullet  .
i butcher my own deer so hopefully ill have the opportunity to find a bullet later this year.
Bear steaks are yummy too
The bear was right around 200 lbs and ~ 5' nose to tail.
If the butcher doesn't find it it'll be in the middle of a steak, i didn't see an exit out of the shoulder when I picked it up from the taxidermist that skinned it for us. It's the first bear that either of us had ever been around when...
JD338- the 200gr load was with 72 grains of 4831.
dubyam- It was around 60-65 when we were shooting yesterday, so not that much higher then it will be first couple weeks of the season next month.
I'm probably going to back off to 75gr, and work up in .2 till 75.5 to see what i get for...
LOADS EXCEED PUBLISHED MAXIMUMS, START LOW AND APPROACH WITH CAUTION
I went and shot some loads today for mine and my dads 300mags today, had some great and some interesting results.
First the great.
200gr AB, R-P brass, WLRM primer, 3.35 COL, 72gr H4831
Four shot .75" at a hundred, with a...
My brother shot a black bear a couple days ago with his 7mag and the 160 AB, awesome results.
Went in 2" behind near shoulder, through the ribcage and shattered the off side shoulder. The bear dropped like a box of rocks.
I would have liked to see an exit, bit it stopped in the shoulder.
The...
my grandfather has used his mod 70 since 1963 when he bought it
its chambered in 300wm
my dad has hunted since 1975 with his 300wm mod 70
neither one of them has any plans to start shooting anything else
they have both used 180 corelocts as long as ive been around
i think youd be better off going with a partition if your gonna mess with the accubond, that tip is there to help expansion also, not just accuracy
taking it off might screw with the performance at impact
did you buy the sabbots or the premaid 30-06 remington ones,
whonder what kinds of velocity i would get out of my 300.
i figured they would be lucky to hit the broad side of a barn
anyone ever try these
remington factory loads 30-06 and 30-30 loads like this so they must work at least

i say the 300 win mag, but im biased
factory ammo has a lot more choices for the standard
and with winchester being gone the wsm fase might go away, probably not, but maybe since its a fairly new cartridge
im getting a friends Lead Sled tomorrow so i can go shoot the AB's i have loaded, so hopefully i get lots of groups like that one
i wonder if i let the barrel cool down in that group if that third one would have been even closer, probably not but, i actually called that one beeing a little bit...
personally i think a 300 mag with 180 grain bullets is about as much as you would ever need
a 270 is a good choice also, but i prefer a bit heavier bullets
so i went and shot some rounds out of my 300 the other day making sure it was sighted in where i want it, and to remember where it hits with core-lokts before i start trying my AB handloads.
this is my best group of 3 shot off of a caldwell H style sand bag
all 3 rounds shot within a minute and...
thats within a couple hours from here.
cant wait till rifle season now, makes me so anctious
the question is if its real or not, or if it was really shot in the selway, or on a high fence ranch somewhere
that is so true
i passed on decent whitetails two years in a row because i didnt like the angle, partly because i figure if i ruin meat i defeated the point of shooting something
if i have any doubts on a shot i dont take it, even with my 300 mag
if i found a big bull, might take a little...
i know im better off with a larger caliber, especially if shot placement isnt perfect
i wont make the shot though if i have any doubts about the shot, equipment or situation
what other powders would be good for the 223
was thinking benchmark, since most of what i will end up loading for this...
