    Range Trip

On their printed data online, that is what they used. I called and asked for specific data using the 200 grain Accubond. Whether the guy just looked on the computer or actually had that data, I will never know.

    brother's grim and Noslers

Good to see you here onesonek. There are only a few SP guys on this site. I wish there were more. This site is great for load data and shooting knowledge. Those are some good groups. I hope to add the Encore platform to my SP addiction soon. Rob

    Range trip....question

My friend is trying to find a load using the 210 grain Nosler Partition in his .338 Federal Ruger M77 Hawkeye. We have tried numerous primers, COAL's, a couple powders, and different charge weights and have found nothing. The best I have seen this gun shoot is 1 1/2 inches at 100 yards with...

    Range Trip

I went to the range this evening with a friend for some load development. I posted a week or so ago that I had found a good load for my .325 WSM Browning A Bolt. I found that my load using a 200 grain Accubond, CCI 200 primers, Winchester brass, and 62.5 grains of H 4350 to be a great load. I...

    Burris Warrenty

+1 JD. I have sent one Burris back that had a loose reticle. It took about two to three weeks to get it back. Not bad, but not really great compared to Leupold. I just sent back 4 Leupold QR bases for my Contender barrels last week. These had levers that I could turn all the way around if I...

    Brush loads

I have a friend that I hunt with that hunts with a Ruger M77 7mmWSM. He killed two deer last year with the Federal Fusion 150 grain bullets, and was less than impressed. Both were good shots and he doubted the performance of the bullet right away. I convinced him to switch to a Ballistic...

    load development

I worry about using a cold primer with 62.5 grains of H4350. What does everyone think? I have studied a lot of load data for this cartridge, and about half uses a LRP and half LRMP. The way I looked at is, I use a Federal 210M LR primer in my .270 Win. with 59.0 grains of H4831. That always goes...

    load development

I did take velocities for each, but I am not where my load data is right now. The changes in velocity were very minimal even when going from a magnum primer to a regular LR primer. JD338, I have tried RL19 in this gun, and the results were not impressive. This load of H4350 happens to be the...

    load development

That was the discussion I had with my friend today. I think I will try to squeeze some more velocity out of it using those primers, but I will not sacrifice accuracy. I feel like I am not getting the potential out of using this much powder, a huge muzzleblast, and considerable recoil. I would...

    load development

I went to the range today to test the effect of primers regarding accuracy and velocity with my .325 WSM. I tested with 5 shot groups using Federal 210M, 215M, CCI 200, 250, WLR, WLRM, and Rem 9 1/2. I stopped shooting the gun after I got to the CCI 250 primer because of a lack of time. I...

    270 WSM powder

Most of the big companies use "non-canister" powders. They are blends that we can't make or shouldn't try to  Try the slow burners of any manufacturer: H4831, IMR 4831, Reloader 22, etc. Check the nosler page for the cartridge, and go from there. I bet you will be surprised in how...

    Cold bore shot question.

That is really cool. Is the Lock Ease a copper containing solution or something? Why does it work? Very interesting.

    Contender hunting opinions

I traded off a .35Rem barrel a while back, because I wasn't able to handle the recoil in a Contender. Now I have a G2 and wish I didn't get rid of it. I am able to absorb recoil much better with the G2. If I bought another .35 barrel, I would want a .35 Rem rimmed. The small shoulder of the .35...

    Contender hunting opinions

I hope this can happen. I would love to even just get one with a handgun this year!

    What bullet would you use?

Great guys, thanks. I was thinking of using the 200 grain Accubond as well. Do you think it will open up well? I typically shoot shoulders, not ribs. I don't like having to follow blood trails unless I am using a bow.

First day at the range with my new toy.

That sounds great! Tell me about the .300 Weaver. Is it a belted magnum, what brass is used to fireform the load. What does a finished round look like.

    Contender hunting opinions

Thanks for the response. Just wanted to let you know that the .45-70 can only be loaded to about 28,000psi in the G2 or contender platform. At that pressure, I can get just over 2000fps with the 300 grain HP! It is an amazingly powerful round when loaded to the max in Ruger #1's.

    Contender hunting opinions

I have available to hunt deer with this year in the Contender format: 1. .25 TCU-shoots great, very little recoil. Shoots 85 grain Ballistic Tips to about 2400fps. 2. 6.8mm spc-shoots great, little recoil. Shoots 110grain Sierra Pro Hunters to about 2450 fps. 3. .30-30 AI-Have not...

    What bullet would you use?

If you were going to hunt Whitetails with a .325 WSM, what bullet would you choose? Note: the whitetails here are often well over 200 lbs. on the hoof. Dressed weights of deer killed in camp are typically from 130-200lbs. There is also a possibility of having a black bear walk by the tree...

    using fire formed brass

One of my rifles actually shoots FL sized brass better. I stopped using neck sized brass when I noticed some of my hunting rounds were a little tough to chamber. This was my fault for lack of planning (because I did not try them all in my gun), but I decided to try FL sizing again, and...
