Guy, that looks like a fantastic bear you and your son got. Looks like some great slopes for bear there. I will be heading out soon for some elk hunting with my 15 year old son very soon. I already still have the freezer half full, so I better start cleaning it out.
Good luck Mike. I hope the weather changes for you. I am waiting for a weather change down here in southern BC to get the elk bugling heavily. Been out, but not heard any yet.
What would happen say to doing the using the bolt to seat a bullet and then measuring to the end of the coooper jacket just before the lead tip. Should the copper jacket all be pretty much identical in length? There would not be any distoryion the the copper jacket at the tip as it is...
I was wondering what other people have for an oal for the 30-06, and specifically the Win Mod 70. I am finding there is some differences with my oal with the 180gr Nosler Part. If the tip has any slight disfiguring to it that will change the oal especially just how close to the lands the...
I too will have to look for the Norma brass. I have some older Norma brass which is going well over 12 reloads and still acts and looks like new. It has been the best that I have tried so far. All my hunting loads are loaded in what I have left of Norma. I have never tried Nosler brass, but...
I have reloaded for a .308 Browning BLR with IMR4350 and IMR4895 with 165 Noslers Part. and CCI200 primers. I did not like the results from the IMR4895 and the IMR4350 was not the best fit for the .308. I have after much great advise from many on here switched to Varget and the 165gr Nosler...
Very nice trade indeed. I love my dads old BLR .308 which is one from the first year made in Belgium. It is one gun that I really trust and love to shoot.
I am not sure that the issue is a spring problem, unless you have had a few miss fires starting before this. Would be odd that it would start and be so many all at once. IMO I would try different primers first to rule that out. I have always used CCI 200 primers in my Win Mod 70 30-06 and...
I second 55.0grs IMR4350, CCI lare rifle primers with 180gr Nosler Part and always had a sub MOA for last 25yrs. Have just switched to 55.0grs H4350, CCI large rifle primers with 180gr Nosler Part (after running test loads) and my old Model 70 is just as accurate and still just a little over...
I just recently did a load work up with my 30-06 and H4350 with 180gr Partitions and started to show pressure sign at 56grs. Very slight, but enough to say 55.0grs will be as high as I want to pust it. Nosler Manual #7 shows 56.5grs as max load. I am with the others start lower and work it...
A long time ago I helped a dear old hunting partner load for his .375 H&H Model 70 with I believe it was IMR4350 and 285gr Sierra Boattails. I can't remember what load it was, but like already posted the recoil is much like a solid push compared to a jolt you might get from a smaller calibre...
I did get to the range today, and found after shooting 43.5grs, 44.0grs, 44.5grs and 45.0grs that the 45.0grs started to show the early signs of pressure. I carefully checked each primer and case prior to shot and the primers started to show signs at 45.0grs. I never did shoot the 4 rounds of...

So I have decided to check some of the data from both manuals after a day at the range. I find there is some differences with the 30-06 180gr info. Here is what is printed:
Nosler#6
IMR4350 powder
max 55.0grs 2758fps 100% load density
53.0grs 2653fps 96% load density
51.0grs...
That is great. I am a fan of the oldies. The new rifles look good, but the old ones have that pure hunting rifle look. I am one of the wood stock fans as well. Not that big a fan of the synthetics. They look and feel a bit cheaper. JMO. I love linseed oiling my old winchester model 70...
