Have you been successful with the 120's ?
If so, stay there. Don't chase rainbows.
If not, then a 100gr bullet had better be a top of the shelf construct.
I'll just be toting my Ruger 96, in 44Mag, with a 4X vintage Redfield scope. Plain Jane white box 240's. Bought it for pigs when I was in Fla and it just Hammered the pork out of them.....no whitetails yet though.
It's barely sub 2" @ 100 yds, but that's just fine for public land in Ohio. I...
Guy, the Dad thing & the 220gr's hit close to home. Not saying my Dad had some screwy concepts, but he'd actually hunt with both 150's & 220's. The 150's were for when he was in more open terrain, then he'd switch to the 220's when he went into 'the thick stuff' !
Granted, over the course of...
I found RL-19 too slow for mine. Book said about 2900 w/ a 140gr AB. I didn't even get 2700!
I can't see where RL-26 be any more than wasting time & powder.
As stated earlier, if you're not trying to push past the 3K they are actually a pretty good bullet, as long as they shoot well in your rifle. The 200gr .338 HotCor is one of my GoTo's for my 338 Fed.
Seriously my friend ? 3 grains of weight will never make one whit of difference on the game. Just pick the best group and don't look back. You already have plenty of speed...............
My arm chair quarterback opinion is that you will probably find they will work pretty much the same on Deer/Lopes & similar sized game, but you'll just be spending more money for no good reason. I have a good supply of AB's on hand, but I don't normally use them as my 1st choice. No need to...
You're lucky you still have the same number of fingers you started with! I personally would not attempt to fire these, even to just get rid of the primer. A drop of oil inside the case, let set for a few dozen days and decap.
The reason I say this is....my hunting buddy, for a couple of...
Mine has a 22" tube. Yeah, I hit the 2800 threshold with other powders, but couldn't get it to group. I finally just went with a full QL dose of Varget @ 2760 and sub MOA groups. Don't really see where the extra 40fps is actually going to make any real difference.
I have never understood why the 300 WM got more popular than the 300 Norma (30/338). The 7RM & the 338WM took off like rockets to the moon, but the Norma never caught on. Same parent case.
I guess advertising $$$$$$$$$ do pay off.
As far as I was ever to ascertain, there is no Real difference...
The only 'Slam' I have is in the state I lived in. Whitetail, black bear, boar & turkey. That alone cost more time & money than my EX cared for, thus one of the reasons I say 'EX'.
^^^^ That^^^^ (but I use Varget)
Don't be fooled into thinking it's too light, or just a varmint round.
To be honest, from my experience hunting the E. Carolina low country & volcanic peaks of Hawaii, the 150's just don't nail deer. Yeah, they die relatively quickly, but rarely DRT. Soft...
I went nuts with a finicky 308 some year ago. Just 'had' to get a 165 to work. I needed it to work for my personal value as a self proclaimed guru of shooting & hunting ! A lot of powder & bullets were simply wasted in futility.
I already had a 180BT that gave acceptable velocity and printed...
