That right there. I took 180 RN Horns on my first pig hunt in Georgia where long shots would be 200-ish and they're excellent.
Can't go wrong either way they're both awesome bullets but like others I went to a single load in my 06 of Ramshot Hunter under a 168 Ballistic Tip and haven't looked...
Awesome work man that's fantastic! Really glad it worked out so well! Pronghorn are an absolute hoot to chase!
I'm hoping to have pics of my pard & me w/ 4 does in the next several days!
Very, very happy to hear of your success! 4 tags in 2.5 days huh? Good pace!
My pard and I leave Weds after work & drive straight thru to Lance Creek with plans of filling 4 doe tags in 3.5 days. Tent camping; can't wait!
Looking forward to seeing pics,
Eric
Please pass along my congratulations to Sue for me Jim!
I'm doing some work on my reloading set up and will have a bunch of ammo ready soon.... Need to play w/ my 280 AI out to 400 and I hear there's a club out by you where I can do that?? ;) ?
Thanks Dave that is my way of doing things also; bring at least 2 rifles so I have a back-up just in case!
The 6.5x55 I have is GORGEOUS and in dire need of alone time so I'll probably be running a "euro trash" operation w/ 7x57 & 6.5x55.
Sorry to hear ya didn't get a tag Jim! Maybe you guys...
Congrats; that unit treated me well on my first western hunt ever in 2010:
257 AI & 100 gr Interlock @ 197 yds bang-flop!
My pard & I each scored a pair of antlerless pronghorn tags for area 9 and tomorrow I'm picking up my long-awaited 7x57!!!!
Now the hard questions... So many virgins...
Nice score!
I LOVE Hunter... Have an 8 lb of BG but haven't had as great a results with it as with RL15.
Magnum worked nicely in my 257 WM.
Not to stick it in yer face or anything, but 8s are approx $150 locally ;) !
Mr. Allen is a great guy with a TON of experience.
I used to have a rather complicated load work-up routine but have changed course.
I now run the kiss, find pressure, rock on method advocated by an obnoxious yet highly experienced member of another forum.
I find a COAL which allows the...
I LOVE Lee Collet Neck Sizers, but as mentioned above the proper function is contingent upon proper cartridge OAL. One COULD use a 30-06 LCNS on a 300 Weatherby but it'd require dropping washers over the case after its in the shell holder to make up the difference in OAL.
I find it easier to...
Mine is 24.5 but yes, this, if you can find H-335.
My 1/9" M4 loves the Noz shotz 55s from SPS in whatever brass sparked by CCI-400s, and the NBTS of the same weight are interchangeable. Not fast, but accurate & death for steel, woodchucks, and coyotes!
+1
If I wonder whether I'm stepping on it too hard I'll pull several random cases from my chosen lot & fire them first when I go to the range. This allows me to see how the load performs under different conditions and to see how primer pockets hold up. After 4x loaded w/o loose pockets I know...
Well I didn't want to say it in such a way as to push people their way, but yeah...
Keeping em a secret is selfish; more for me.
As long as those .277 ABLRs are lasting I can see why Scotty can be more generous than me ;) .
If you like the military shooting sling format the Brownells Latigo is, as mentioned previously, a great way to go. I have a couple of the 1907s on heavier varmint rifles that often wear bipods because, while I love Col Whelen's shooting method they're on the heavy side for a big game rifle...
This has become my way of thinking too, although I've never had bad luck w/ inexpensive barrels.
My 257 AI, my first custom, has a cheapo Adams & Bennett F34 contour CM from MidwayUSA and shoots lights out! Midway has since gone to Green Mtn but I haven't heard reviews.
