New deer rifle right after taxes, IF regs dont change AGAIN

Well.......maybe a new centerfire for this ol' Hoosier to add venison to the freezer this year...right after paying income taxes, property taxes and annual property/vehicle insurances........sheesh. That said I will check back with the Indiana DNR to see if ANOTHER change has been made but...

    6.5X57

Sorry, Original Poster.....I will stop now. Off topic again God Bless On topic the 6.5x55 listed case capacity is 57 The 6.5x57 is 58 and the 7x57 is 59..... and both the 57mm ones have longer necks. A good thing or not is a personal preference. The Swede neck is longer than caliber diameter...

    6.5X57

Thanks, Mike. To make myself clearly understood, while the rim thickness IS another "something to consider" these numbers above are concerning rim diameter and what the amount of difference I have seen.....and obviously do not like. Accuracy, of course, is something to think about and while a...

    6.5X57

Yep. Compare the capacities of the two. One is a tad longer in the body than the other and the other is a bit wider. Capacity BELOW the neck is a near twin. Put either in a modern rifle run around 60K (no bashing please. It's done all the time and by people you all know on the Swede) and your...

    Understanding SAAMI Pressures, or not?

I'm agreeing with Mike, even if it doesn't sound like it to some but I may be approaching it at a different angle a bit. SAAMI "maximums" ( there is more than one BTW) are the results of tests ran on AMMUNITION (not case strength) sent to them and that ammunition was loaded by the company...

    I think I need.

I do like nice wood grain! Very nice, Bronc!

    I think I need.

Mine is not as nice, nor as light as what you have in mind but.......I'll vote Swede OR 7x57 My recent oh-so-cheap-I-could-not-help-it M96 Mannlicher that someone put a lot of time and money into. SHORT barrel at 18.5". Muzzle blast will be less than user friendly but for a "meat gun".....I'll...

    Annealing brass

On the water subject that is discussed above Im just highlighting part of the 6br page on that and I am in full agreement but others here are more experienced so only my 2 cents. The water is a PIA all the way around to use, and allegedly does nothing. "Unlike steel, which will be made harder...

    New Hunting loads

Yeah BUT..........you were NOT using a slow load to begin with. You are correct IN a 300 RUM, you had "room to spare" and such is accurate but there is a point of no return when running near minimum. There is none you can afford to give up for SOME rounds at SOME distances. My reply was based...

    New Hunting loads

Devils advocate here. "Last year my Rem. 700 CDL in 30-06 was very effective in harvesting a 5x5 bull and a 4x4 Mulie buck in Montana." = done deal. What was lacking? "My hand load of 61.0 Gr of Reloder 22 in a new Nosler case, WLR primer, under a Nosler 180gr. Accubond grouped just under 1"...

    Weatherby rounds' case stretch?

It is always amazing to me to see the often WIDELY different results in answers to questions I've put out there. This one has proved to be no different concerning the "Weatherby case stretch". Thanks to one and all for sharing their experiences!! God Bless

    Weatherby rounds' case stretch?

The one thing I've failed to get through to many who snub the belted mag rounds is you don't HAVE TO headspace off the belt...UNLESS you have inadequate shoulder area, and IMHO I can find NO downside to having two areas to lock in a headspace even though so many claims the belt "causes"...

    Weatherby rounds' case stretch?

Check out my info WAY back on the forum on the 350Jr I slopped together to hunt with our ridiculous regs. LOTS of familiarity with the ol 350 MAGGIE!! (got like 500 cases LOL) NIGHT

    Weatherby rounds' case stretch?

For a belted round, 7mm-350 Rem Mag would be close, I think...neck is a little short though. Short??? .355" before reduced?? ( I think) What am I missing there? God Bless Bedtime here in the corn belt. Later gang and THANK YOU all for the input so far.

    Weatherby rounds' case stretch?

There is ONE thing, IMHO, incorrect about the 350 mag and 6.5 mag rounds and I LOVE them both. They are TOO LONG for a short action round. Bullet seating depths required rob the round of capacity anyway........so WHY make it so long? Efficiency lost. God Bless

    Weatherby rounds' case stretch?

EXACTLY!! However, for me, I am not a rebated rim fan nor feel I desire quite that much capacity. For my use. I've had a long LONG love affair with the belted cases and don't feel they have been used in a properly PROPORTIONED short action round, so......just decided to build one. God Bless

    Weatherby rounds' case stretch?

If your "advantage" mentioned is velocity......no. Efficiency....yes. This round is being built for a lighter, shorter rifle for medium ranges (to you guys LOL). I'd have to look for and set up for a shot over 300 yards here in Indiana. In half my hunting spots 400 yards is on someone else's...

    Weatherby rounds' case stretch?

Actualllllllllllllllllllly?? In the case I have the shoulder HEIGHT set for curiosity purposes, the entire case capacity of the 308 family rounds will fit below the neck, which to me is the ROUGH "net" capacity and was actually expected and the goal. First one to be made (seriously hints at I...

    Weatherby rounds' case stretch?

I'm working on a short action round. The only reason the Weatherby shoulder is involved is because I don't have custom dies made, I alter existing ones and with SUPER results. I make the chamber specs to work with the brass specs I end up with and can easily repeat. Some come up with a...

    Weatherby rounds' case stretch?

A quickie question for those having loaded for any of the Weatherby rounds. Does the shoulder style these rounds have result in more or less case stretch than the standard 25-30 degree shoulders? Or have you even noticed a difference at all? Also, any reasons you would or would not use such...
