I've purchased a stock and the Zeiss 6.5X20 Varminter from RedHawk. Great to deal with and since he's all but in my back yard, a couple days and it's on my doorstep.
The laminated remington stock for my .257 Bee came from him in two days
Well ..... Just want against my better judgement last weekend & have added another Remington to the safe. G-Pa has bought my son his first big-game rifle in a Rem 700 compact.
He'll be 10 next month and was a toss up between teh .243 & 7-08. I've never had any experience with the .243 and...
I have a safe full or Remmi's - My black lab is named Remmi and I've always bled Remington green short of my last two purchaes.
I purchased a .223 VTR the first year they came out - ended up putting a Sako style extractor in it, & bushing the firing pin hole. I couldn't hardly close the bolt...
Well I've definately shot larger Mulies with a rifle and have definately missed larger ones than this in archery season. I believe it came down to a couple thoughts going on in my head at the time......
#1 Hunting on my own this year without my reqular hunting buddy - the days get long that...
Yep - The last Remington I purchased 700 VTR in .223 had the same issue. If you look around the bottom of the case, you'll see where the extractor is set too deep and will remove a small portion of brass each time.
Rather than deal with Remington ( They obviously didn't have the time to do...
I had good luck with IMR7828 & Viht N-165 with the 110AB's. I've since switched and as Fotis stated - RL-25. I'm feeding it 70grs of it with 115 B-tips.
That's unfortunate to hear, as most -08's shoot what ever goes down the barrel fairly decent.
Early life, mine used a lot of IMR-4350 & 150gr SMK's and yes seated out as far as I could get them. Transformation turned over to the 150gr BT's with the same powder, but still under an inch...
I have a VTR I'm about to turn in for scrap iron. I had bolt issues right out of the box and had it resolved through Gre-Tan. I really need to restock it and give it a second chance, but haven't been able to get much of anything to shoot like I really think it should. Can't say I've run into...
Jim - just out of curiosity why is he not going to use the 60gr BT ? seems that is what the AR would be screaming for?
Wish I could help - took the scope off my 700 VTR as I can't get that one to shoot as I want.
Fotis - you're really going to have to work on that ! I'm thinking of brining the kiddo accross the boarder next weekend for some coyote action.
Thanks Gents - will play with the milk jug method first. Would expect complete distruction of the first jug and "maybe" into the second from...
As Fotis stated -
I've never seen a cleaner burning powder. My .280 absolutely loves the N165.
My .300RUM likes it as well, just low on the velocity scale.
The .260 however with 130gr VLD's and N560  it's the go fast get-r-done powder.
Haven't used any of the N570, but use quite a bit of N140, N165, & N560 all with great results.
I'm a Viht fan, just pricey for testing.
What round are you looking at using it for?
The 300RUM gets my vote.
We always change our minds. Good intentions all the time, however my freezer is full of good intentions and I'm starving.
The RUM can be loaded to the -06 levels AND - loaded heavy "just because you can" Seems you have the best of all worlds here?
I'm so out of touch !
I see Nosler has introduced brass for the .17 Rem as well as a 20gr Varmageddon bullet
What's the skinny on these bullets?
I have a Rem 700 BDL ( good old style ) .17 in the safe that never gets shot. Great little gun, but past experience using it on coyotes...
Hard to beat the Leupy or Zeiss glass. Don't disregard any area of customer service when it come to high end purchases.

The good ole 7-08 is another one that is quite under-rated. Nothing flashy, but definatly in a category to get the job done. This was my first elk gun, and has somewhat turned into my safe queen. If it's mainly deer size and down the 120gr B-tip is the ticket. Most 7-08's are easy to laod...
69.0 Grians of 7828 w/ 110gr AB's gave me 3478fps and slighly over half inch groups out of my Rem 700 SPS.
I then had to go and put a laminated stock on it and bed it, which threw that load right out the window. I'm now using 115gr BT's & RL-25.
Another powder to look at that I had good luck...
