Both, and I often use both. Most bi-pods that are tall enough for shooting kneeling or sitting are too tall for the prone. So I like both since a set of Stoney Point shooting sticks don't weigh much, and a 6-9" Harris bi-pod with a swivel is pretty light. Neither interfere with the other, and...
You got to love those simple Winchester triggers, I hate that they had to go and mess things up. The MOA is a good trigger and works well enough, I just don't see how it's better to have a fully enclosed trigger vs. an open design that works in all conditions. Thanks for the pictures, and let...
I don't want you to think that I'm ignoring your advice. However, a 150 grain AB bullet at 2500-2600 fps recoils the same as a 130 grain TTSX bullet at 2900 fps according to recoil calculators. In fact if I'm pushing the 150 grain bullet 2600 fps the 130 actually recoils less all the way...
Nice, one of my .338-06 rifles loves RL15 and the 200 gr Hornady SP bullet, I get nearly 2900 fps out of it. I've only killed a pronghorn doe with that combo but it works very well.
Picked up 200 of the 130 grain TTSX last night online from Cabela's. They're having a sale and I probably saved $40 minimum on the bullets and got free shipping.
I'm more worried about her not connecting and hating elk hunting. When she's older we'll and she's killed a few she'll be ready to hold out for a trophy. Nothing seems to disappoint a kid worse than being unsuccessful, and I don't want her to loose the fever.
The elk hunt may not happen this year anyway since my daughter didn't draw. I'll have to see what's available when the leftover list comes out. I want to just get her a hunt in an area with a high chance of success. I'm thinking something easy like a cow hunt or an either sex hunt where if we...
I looked into one a few years back when they first came out. I asked how long and what was the deposit to build a rifle. They told me 12-14 months and 100%, and I politely told them no thanks. If I remember is was like a $1400 rifle and I decided I could do better on my own for that price...
Read the article and it's a little dated, posted on March 1 2008 so it's seven years old. I doubt you can touch a Steven's 200 acton for $150 for the bare action anymore. I know I bought my first Stevens 200 .223 rifle off the old Nosler auction site (Bivouac) for $190 delivered and wish I had...
Hornady only list 150 and 160 and that's a little heavier than I want to use. Barnes goes all the way down to a 110 TTSX though I don't think it's the answer for elk either. The thing is about the 130 grain TTSX if I can get 2900 fps out of it, I'm hitting as hard as the 150-160 grain bullets...
You're welcome Dwh, now for the shocking news! I'm pretty much done with Savage rifles. My interest in them has wained substantially over the past few years. I don't really see the advantage in it anymore. If a guy wants a .260 he can usually buy one cheaper than building one.
With the...

Thank you DrMike! I'll get maybe a little more speed as my daughter has a 24" Classic Rem 700. Looks like I might have to invest in some Accurate powders. Though I have plenty of H380, H414 and W760.
If you know your dope you can shoot well past 400 yards on game. It is possible to have a 325 yard point blank range for a 225 grain NPT delivering nearly 2000 ft-lbs of energy at that range. It's only 8 MOA to come up from a point blank zero to reach 500 yards, and most scopes have at least...
Anyone tried either of these bullets on elk in this cartridge or a .308 win? My 12 year old daughter wants to hunt elk and is a little recoil sensitive. She usually shoots a 125 grain NBT in her .300 Savage for deer and tolerates it pretty well, thinking the 130 grain won't be much of a step up.
I wouldn't order the B&C stock for a Winchester without going to a store and handling a brand new Winchester Extreme Weather. The B&C stock on my Extreme Weather was way to thick in the grip and forearm for my tastes. I imagine this is a similar stock with full length bedding block that you'll...

Thompson Center is offering $75 cash back on any Venture rifle purchased now until 12/31/15 and that'll make most of them around $375 not including tax. I had one in .270 Win and it slung pretty much any bullet I shot better than I could pull the trigger...
