    221 Fire Ball Bullets

For coyotes I was looking for something with more weight (but not a 50) and less explosive for fur friendly. I have some 40 BT's will try them some time. I was stocked up with the HPV because it was the shortest bullet I could find for my CZ527 22-hornet with its 1:16 twist rate. For it I am...

    221 Fire Ball Bullets

I got to see how the 45gr Hornady Spire Point works from my 221rem. I have dispatched two small porkies say 10lbs max. Shots were just 50 yards shoulder/ lung shots. They were pass throughs with only the exit showing and the fur from what I saw was not messed up say dime sized whole. The 45gr SP...

    This years deer medicine

358 Win 225gr PT @ 2440 fps 35 Rem 200gr Corelokt @ 2180 fps 270 Win 140gr CL Ultra (Rem Ammo) I never found time this year to shoot my 270win work up loads for the 140gr B-tip. Using 140gr BT & 100-V, I will rework them a bit because I bought two boxes of 140gr PT's and thats my real bullet of...

    35 whelen loads

That has been my experance with the 35 whelen and deer. Three DRT all heart shots, all complete pass throughs with the 200gr CoreLokt PSP (old type). I have the 225gr PT loaded in my 358win this year. With a super clean barrel it took 15 fouling shots but I have a 3 shot group inside the one...

    35 whelen loads

I have not reloaded for my whelen yet. I use H4895 for both my 35 rem and 358win. I have worked up loads useing TAC for both and may switch to it. My question is how is TAC working in the Whelen using 225gr PT/AB's? With the whelen I would be happy with any thing thats accurate over 2600fps...

    338-06 VS 35-06 aka 35 Whelen

Bingo! And if all were loaded to the same pressures it would be more obvious. 35Whelen, 270Win, 358Win, & 35Rem these work well for me.

    Partition failure ?

If both lungs were not hit a deer can live hours. I would say the PT worked great from your explanation. it was the shots that were poor. I have made perfect heart lung shots that dropped deer with in thirty yards. And here is two almost perfect shots say with in two inches of perfect that were...

    Ruger 77 bolt shims?

Thanks I have not used it much since its is a 3 MOA gun at best. But Between bolt shims, action/barrel fitting and even a Shilen barrel I should get it shooting. My friend has a 77/22WMR in stainless thats a tack driver like my 77/22LR . I found a NIB CZ527 in 22-Hornet about six years ago...

    Ruger 77 bolt shims?

Ok I have two 77's A 77/22LR it drives tacks and a 77/22WRM it does not! I still have to check the reciever to barrel alinment to see if it is square and fits well. And now I hear the hornet version has bolt shims, So does the rim fire version use bolt shims too?

    walking varminter opinions?

CZ527 in 221 Fire Ball or 223REM Sporter barrel 3-9 to 4.5-14. I have a CZ527-22 Hornet and I might buy one in 221REM and sell my 700-221REM Limited. Their that good and there is now a flush 3 shot magazine vertion in 223rem.

    17 Hornady Hornet powders/loads

I had two thoughts one was what is the 17-hornets pressure? Because the CCI500 SPP works perfect in the 22-hornet at its lower pressure. My second thought does the 17 hornet (K type) have lots of room or is it a tight fit? AA1680 is good 22-hornet powder and 300MP is another. 300MP is the...

'Best' bullet for the .308 Winchester.

Nothing wrong with the correct CoreLokt bullet. You simply used a Corelokt that was designed for use on deer not an elk. If you would have used a 165gr or 180gr you would be happier with them. In fact I realy think the 150gr is too light for the .308 win cartridge. For deer any 165gr bullet of...

Nosler knows the concept (flat shooting western cartridges)

Love seeing the Long range AB's and I see they improve on the classic 270win with the 150gr LRAB. Its not a 130gr BT or even the great 140gr AB but the proper weight needed for flatter trajectories at longer ranges. Not the fastest out of the gate or most likely the flattest shooting under...

    Solid hunting boots

For warm weather I have a pair of Danner Arcadias and they have been fine four years running. My friend picked up the Kagaroo hide feather weight boots and I will say they do not scratch like cow hide and are better water proofed than my goretec arcadias. These are by Cabelas and at one time...

    Bullet Seating Depth??

As was stated start long as you can and .020" is a safe distance since bullets can very by .005-.010" easy (even noslers). Pressure will be at its highest the closer to the lands and will decrease as you shorten the OCL. If you did your work up to max pressure loads while touching the lands you...

    50gr Hornady SXSP?

I am asking about its on game performance and fur friendlyness. Reason is I have a accurate load for my 221 Fire Ball using the 45gr Spire Point at 3050fps and the 45gr has the same listed MV as the 50/55grs SXSP have and should be simular. In a hornet its works like a soft point big game...

What is the one for you?

The one is the 35rem It was my first and with in its range its a thumper. Lucky I have about 600 200gr CLRN's to see me through and at 2188fps out of my 336D (guide gun) it it simply works great. Its a classic eastern deer, bear, moose cartridge that has very little recoil and on game smack...

    The magnum advantage: about 10%

Actual in MI there is nothing the 35rem won't dispatch effectively with in 125 yards. The 35 has been taken moose elk and black bears for over 100 years and there still built like the first of their kind were. I think our elk herd was reastablished from alberta's elk stock.
