Will be taking the Lasermark 270 Weatherby magnum loaded with 74 grains of IMR 7828 and WLRM primers behind a Hornady 140 grain BTSP. Whitetail, mule deer and elk are on the agenda. The 150 partitions are for moose and bear. I changed the scope, put a 6.5x20x50 Leupold VX3 AO on it. I did put...
They 270 Weatherby rules! Nothing makes me smile like dumping a coyote or exploding a gopher with it. Elk and moose fall down fast when in the path of it and usually don't need a second hit. Nice to reload for and just plain works.
Galling, Guy. I put 12# of powder through one in a year. I shoot gophers, yotes etc, and a couple hundred rounds a day is pure hell on the barrel. I could have rebarreled, but needed a new Lasermark.
Get the 270 Weatherby and don't look back. Shot one for a lot of years, and sold everything else from 222 to 458. I neck size and my cases are OLD. I have annealed them a few times, and my handloads are hot. I haven't run across anything yet that needs to be hit twice. My velocity is just over...
I have a 6.5x20x50 AO Leupold on mine Fotis. I like it. As age creeps up and pounces on ya, the eyeballs just aren't as sharp as they used to be. Pretty well all of my shots have been at full power and long. It helps.
I like and use the Forster for neck turning and trimming. I prefer to eliminate any variables. Case is trimmed to .005 below chamber and it works for me.
Don't see why it wouldn't perform fine. I have been using 140 grain Hornady bts out of the 270 Wby and they work great. Next project is the 150 grain Noslers, as I have a few thousand of them.
The hotcore has always performed well for me. I really like their ability to hold together at high speed. I have only recovered one of them and it was a perfect mushroom. They shoot well for me, no complaints here.
The 788 is one of Remington's better ideas. They were not overpriced and shot well. In the 30 30 caliber, you can load them a little hotter than a lever action, and can use pointed bulets too. Good grab!
