I received the email this morning.
I drew a Unit 45 Bull tag for the Oct 10-14th Muzzleloader season. The rut will still be on and the bulls will be bugling. Archery tactics with a muzzleloader.
I am so pumped right now. This unit includes the Pecos Wilderness area so that means to...
Yep... 300winmag and the PP are awesome.
My Ruger M77 shoots sub MOA with them all day long and up until a year or two ago it was the rifle/load that I had shot my smallest group with 1/3 MOA.
Those are both outstanding!
That billy is gorgeous. What a trophy!
Here's a random question. When you see field pics, 99 % of them the hide is stained pretty good with blood. I would think that the terrain Billy's are taken in there isn't a quick way to wash it out. How do the...
Dan,
I have never shot 140's and 4831, but I have shot a TON of 4064 with the 140's.
49 gr's had an average of 2986 FPS with a standard deviation of 23 FPS. Very good groups and no pressure signs.
50 gr's had an average of 3001 FPS with a standard deviation of 14 FPS. Very good groups...
That is just mind boggling to me Dr. Mike. We have the same thing here. Mid 70's here during the day but the mountains just east of Santa Fe ( 45 miles away) were hit with 6-12 inches of the white stuff again last night. Crazy!!
Yeah Jake it is a little south of Ruidoso. Are you thinking of Ski Apache? That is a the big skiing spot down there. Lots of elk there as well and big bulls. That unit has the Mescalaro Reservation in it and there are some monsters around there.
Well I finished work a bit early in El Paso TX last week and seeings how my boots, pack, trail pants, and binos just happened to be in the truck, I made a pit stop near Cloudcroft NM to look for sheds and get feel for the land. I put in for 2 late season Cow hunts for NM residents ( Dec) and...
And I do the same as Charlie.
Bed the recoil lug, and the 1.5 inches of chamber along with rear tang at same time.
then I go back and touch up any areas that the bedding didn't get to. Then I do the bottom metal completely. Then I skim bed the entire magazine area for weather proofing...
Yeah blue tape works wonders. Here is my daughters rifle. I use the tape in about 10 layers about 1.5 inches in front of the recoil lug. It does two things:
1. helps to center the barrel in the channel and assure free floating to the area of the tape.
2. builds a dam so the bedding...
Jake,
Take the trigger assembly off and fill with modeling clay or play doh. Gently wipe the release agent over the clay/playdoh. When you pull the action out, some of the clay/playdoh may stick to the bedding compound, but just wipe it away with a paper towel.
Use the pins that came...
Yeah this rifle makes me twitch... My two oldest girls write right handed, are right eye dominant, but swing a golf club and baseball bat lefty. When they shoot the bb gun they naturally shoot right handed so I think they are good to go with right handed, but man this rifle would be sweet to...
Can't wait to see em on the wall!
My wife actually asked me if I could shoot a bull elk this fall ( yeah no problem honey consider it done)
I guess she saw a house on one of those home shows and she fell in love with a European Bull elk skull on the wall. Who would have thought?
Dr. Mike I would be your wing man on that New Zealand trip. I want to go there more than any other place and hunt those magnificent stags during the roar.
Ya think we could get in trouble with 40k in our pockets, a couple Winchesters in the cases and our passports?
