The Medalist on my 7wsm is only bedded at the tang and front of the mag well to the lug and it shoots really good. The tang on mine was terrible and took 2 rounds of bedding to get it right. Having the entire action supported would be great but since you are torqued front and rear as long as...
I shot some Federal Premium 85gr Sierra Gamekings from my 22" Savage years back and for a 10 shot string they were all 3300fps+. They shot very accurate but were a tad warm. :)
I shoot 180's from my 30/06's with H4831 @ 2737fps out to 600yds and see no reason to switch. I've only killed deer under 150yds with mine but they work great and I have never recovered one.
I saw a video a couple years ago where a guy set up 17 one gallon jugs of water and fired a Laser Cast 350gr @ 1400fps into them from his 45/70........he needed more jugs.
Thanks for the QL info and the warm welcome into the Whelenizer club.
With a 358 Win and 3 - 35 Rem's I'm in the 35 club just not in with the big kids.
My MidwayUSA cart is very heavy with Whelen materials.
I just went all Mel Gibson from the Patriot on it.

I was gifted a T/C Encore Pro Hunter 28" 35 Whelen yesterday from a friend and I'll need some guidance from the Whelenizers here.
I figure I'll put Talley LW lows on it, some form of Leupold, RCBS dies and the 225gr Accubond. I also have a box of 250gr Hornady RN laying on the shelf.
I have...
Thanks guys.
I always wanted to try 5744 but never found any. When I got a hold of 4759 I just shelved everything else. I have stretched mine to just over 600 @ 12" steel and was all around it but never hit it.
That's awesome shooting with anything let alone open sights.
The old...
Mine are all fairly slow with cast, very accurate and fun to shoot. The only hotrod load I have is the 350 Hornady FP + 59grs H4895 for 1922fps from my 18.5" barrel.

I shoot the 80 GMX from my 243 and the 130 TTSX from my 30/06 and both are loaded very short and both shoot around .5". The 243 Win with the 80gr mono will make you think you are shooting a much larger rifle when you hit critters with it.
46.2grs H1000 gets 2820fps my 24" barreled 243 Win. I have taken it out to 800yds and it works great with the 105 HPBT. +13.5 MOA is money @ 620yds and +21.5 MOA is money @ 800yds from mine. If it was going 3000fps I don't see how it could be any better.
I've shot several .75" groups @...
I don't shoot my 358 Win much either, no clue why. The last few rifle deer I have killed have been with smaller cals so I made this the year of 35 and up, so I've taken 2 different 35 Rem, my 358 Win and my 45/70 to the field. The deer have made this the year of you won't see a buck to shoot...
Nope no drop tube.
I pour in a funnel so that the powder swirls it's way in, then I give it a few quick snaps with my finger on the base and seat right to the middle of the cannalure.
I neglect my 358 Win a lot and I don't know why. It doesn't shoot anything bad, shoots most combos...
It's pretty full but it's not terrible. After some light taps I don't get any crunchy crunch when seating. I have an old Speer manual that shows 49grs as max, no clue how you would get 49grs in there honestly.
It's been hovering right around 1" @ 120yds and it really seems to be spitting...
