I have a marlin 336, a pretty gun, actually won it at a safari club meeting(drawing).
Unfortunately, i have not figured out how to get it shooting better than 1.5-2” at 100.
I’ve tried 170’s and 150’s. I think marginally the 150’s shoot a little better. The CTBT RN 150 for 3030, shoot poorly...
Hey Scottie, I recall a thread where Cheyenne commented she had a 275, 300, and 375 H&H. If she’s around still, she could provide some insight. I think she said her grandfather was her handloader.
Love the cartridge… no experience with it.
First one in the freezer. Chris(son) passed on a couple early and at 1pm, he took a big Doe. My spot yielded bucks only. How many times do you wish for bucks and only get does.. about 10 am the neighbors showed up and started cutting the alfalfa field… so no more activity near me.
Chris was...
I actually lik Boyd’s stocks. Was disappointed they would only support heavy barrels. I like the color you chose. Have a 3030 from Marlin with the grey stain.
So this unfortunate model 93, 22WM was in my house with 5.5’ of water for three days.
Dropped off the gun at LGS and they went to it. 2 years later still not done… the issue… getting a stock. Also, my son dropped it off so I had to work through him to get updates and eventually the rifle back...
Been a while since I’ve posted. Just busy trying to get the house back to 100% post flood.
Got asked to help clean up a deer problem this weekend. I’ll have access to five tags. Will probably self limit to two given warm weather in Michigan.
One requirement is Bang Flop Kills.
Have four...
FYI. My oldest finished med school(top of class) did a internal medicine residency at U of Alabama Birmingham(university hospital and VA hospital) including chief resident, then to Medical U of SCarolina (Charleston) for a fellowship in Rheumatology (including Chief Fellow), he’s now on Staff...
Well, 26 months after the Sanford dam failure and Edenville dam breach.. and 5.5’ of water in my reloading room… I have things put back together. Basement useable and I can start messing with my loads again. Probably 45/70 near top of list. Loaded FTX for it and it shot well. Killed one buck...
I have a 40 north of JD338. The lack of rain has been brutal. I carried in. Ton of lime and our Pine Barrens soil sweetened up nicely. PH is close to 6.8-7now. Deer visit regularly I put out clover and chicory. I’m going to have to go after a second round of chicory…so while my plot is thin...
Hi Salmoncatcher,
Have been away from the forums for a while. Just lots of time taking care of in laws and my employer is selling my part of the company… that said, I made it to Ontario for a fabulous week of fishing. I’ve seen many things and got treated to a new combo on 8/18, we had a clear...
I should have said a couple other things.
1) welcome to reloading.
2) We work our loads up from starting because, there is lot to lot variability in powder. Good argument for buying 4 and 8 # jugs when you find a powder you like.
Ie 4350, 4831, Benchmark, STABall6.5, RL26, W760 etc. I’d buy an...
As long as you work your loads up, no problem substituting comparable primers.
Should be fine. Some rifles really like one particular primer sometimes. You can see it in groups or on a chrono with super low SD. (Single digit FPS) Mv.
Thank you all for the excellent suggestions.
He shoots is 30-378 at 300 yards in about 2”. Annoys him I’m just under an inch. I don’t think the 340wby intimidates him. He was annoyed being out grouped on his own rifle… trigger time is the solution.
Apologies for not getting the model right...

Talking with a friend about a finnwolf 340wby. Nice feeling rifle/trigger, but first shot is high left by like 18” at 50 yards.
18” makes it crazy because if we sight for cold barrel first shot, follow up shots are so off, it’s not usable. And if we sight for the group, the first shot is a...
As a 35 is has respectable bore and knock down. From what I’ve read, it takes a 355 bullet, not a 358. And it memory servers me, 9mm is 355. Hornady makes an FTX and I think an interlock in 355.
The AR is a fun platform to own and shoot.
Might be an acceptable round if you’re not hung up on...
