    It's Whelen Time

A new law was recently passed through the house and senate, expected to be signed by the President this week. Sounds like Canada will implement within weeks too. Any .35 Whelen must be loaded with at least a 250 grain bullet. I suggest the Partitions or Speer. Just trying to help you stay...

    Wyoming 2022

Great hunt and a great story to go with it. It’s funny how we keep in touch with a few people who only crossed paths a short time in our lives. I stay in contact with some fellow Marines even though I’ve been out for over 30 years now. Ironically Guy and I were on the same ship together for...

Our Latest. The most Versatile Revolver?

I have a handful of .357’s and one .38. I like the versatility of the .357 where it can be loaded from mild to wild but still be plenty potent and very shootable At the same time. I’ve toyed with the idea of have a cylinder machined to accept moon clips and the chambers recut on one so they...

    Shot the trifecta.

I just noticed the peep sight on the bolt of the savage. Most people would look and wonder…what is that? Very nice old nostalgic guns. It’s been a few years since I’ve shot my 71, may have to rectify that. I brought my Dad’s 1957 Winchester .30-30 back with me this year. I’m headed to...

This Will Get Your Attention! Bear Attack!

If you watch the video closely you can see a Cub. Once the bear gets knocked below the climber it retreats and comes back towards him. Then you can see the cub on the same ledge in the brush. You may have to watch it a couple times to catch it.

Nosler starting to piss me off...

A few years ago the Bend area was on my short list of areas I’d like to retire to. But their Politics are just as bad, if not worse, as Washington. It’s a damn shame too because it’s such a beautiful area and the climate suits me better in the winter. I wouldn’t really want to work after...

    Cougar Attack

I always think of an aggressive animal like this as bad if it’s allowed to live. What happens to the next person who may not be armed? While I agree they have their place in the food chain, once they lose their fear of humans it’s probably best they be dispatched.

    Wyoming Cow Elk

Weighed the bullet today, 72% retention is about what other Accubonds have given me. There was another critter close by that we never saw, but we were always on the lookout!!!

What have you taken Plains Game with?

I was pretty fortunate and was able to hunt South Africa in 2012. I took my Ruger No 1 in 7x57 with handloaded 160 grain Accubonds and a Ruger 77 in .35 Whelen with hand loaded 250 grain Partitions. I used the 7x57 for Gemsbok, 2 Impala and a Blesbok. I used the Whelen on Zebra, Blue...

Thanks fellas, I’ll definitely eat well this next year. No pack horses for us, just 4 guys with 2 legs each.

    Wyoming Cow Elk

Knowing I’d never have enough points for a Wyoming bull tag, my buddy convinced me to put in for a cow tag near Cody. I went I as a partner on the draw with another guy. We filled his tag the first night we hunted on Saturday. My tag got punched on Sunday. It was the hardest critter I’ve...

    Shiras Bull

Guy, I hunted Moose up in BC back in 2003. I took a young bull and was happy as could be. I’d like to hunt moose again soon and think the .450 Marlin with either of the bullets you mentioned would be my rifle of choice.

    Two Feet of Snow Overnight!

Guy, it’s our fault on the wet side. It had warmed up to almost 50 and was raining like a cow…well, you know the rest. In the 30 years I’ve lived in this state I don’t remember a fall/winter where I have not seen the sun as much as this year.

Went looking for a S&W 686 Plus... end up with something els

I’m with you on the looks of the performance center guns, just not my thing. The exception is my buddies comped 586, that’s one I’d take. I needed up with a 686plus with a 3 inch barrel a few years ago. Really love the balance of that gun.

Reloading and Shooting the 30-30 Story & Video

Guy, liked the video, very well done. A buddy I grew up with in Wisconsin has his Dad’s old Glenfield .30-30. When that thing would come out of the gun cabinet it meant the Dad’s we’re headed north. They would always hunt opening weekend at home but had to use shotguns with slugs. When...

    .375 H&H Mag vs. 9.3x62mm

I was able to make a trip to Africa in 2012 where I used my .35 Whelen on 4 of the 8 animals I took. The PH I was with toted a Husqvarna 9.3x62. We compared the merits of the 2 cartridges and at the time a .35 made more sense for me due to the availability of bullets. The 9.3 seems to have...
