Finally got around to taking some pics of my new reloading set up. Some of you may remember that my family and I just built our forever home. My wife was nice enough to give me a room in the basement for me to do my reloading. It is not perfect and it not yet complete. But it darn sure beats a...
I am actually planning on using the 150 ballistic tips out of my 7 mag for this year. I am not worried about velocity that much as my shots will be in the woods and within 100 yds. I plan to use IMR 4831 trying, 63 grains today to see how it shoots.
This past weekend was youth rifle season in KY. My son and I hunted Saturday morning and evening with no luck. Sunday morning no luck either. Sunday evening a group of three 8 pts hit the clover plot. My son liked this one so he put the cross hairs of the 243 where they needed to be and pulled...
So this morning I finally got to work on some 7-08 factory seconds brass that I had gotten from SPS. Brass did not look bad at all. I attempted to run all pieces through a neck sizing die and one piece of brass would not fit in the shell holder. I closely examined the brass and it is definitely...
I know I posted last week asking which bullet for the 243, ballistic tip or partition. I also posted previously about load development for the 130 gr TTSX for the 270. Well I started on that yesterday and it did not really take long to figure out that my rifle likes that bullet! I started with...
I probably should have mentioned that the rifle used for this application with be a youth model with an 18 inch barrel so velocity probably will not get to 3000 fps. All shots will be in a food plot that has the longest shot distance of 95 yards.
Which would you all suggest for deer out of the 243? I have never used the 95 gr ballistic tip but have used the 120 gr in 7mm and love the results. I have used the partition in 243 and killed deer dead just did not get the blood trail I wanted. Any suggestions from first hand experience is...
Glad to be back checking in with all the fine folks on this forum. I have not posted or even visited for a while. Honestly missed it. Finally got moved into my house and got most of my reloading stuff organized. I had asked questions previously about where in my house I should reload. I settled...
Thanks for all of the input. My son has shot a lot rifles for an 8 yr old. He loves his 243 and and he has shot the "family" 7-08 a lot. Killed several deer with each. I honestly do not know why he wants a 308 so bad other than the fact that I do not have one and his cousins have their "own"...
My son is bound a determined to have a 308 as his own rifle. I have all of the equipment neccesary to reload for 308 and even owned a 308 a while back. However, I sold it to make room in the safe for my sons 243 that he got as his first rifle. That being said I do not have a lot of experience...
