On Thursday morning I pillar bedded the new Boyd’s stock for my daughter’s Africa rifle then on Friday I bedded the action and free floated the barrel. I’ve done a few now so it came out well. On Saturday I took my 28Nosler and the Kimber 325WSM along with the 270WSM wearing new furniture the...
After a few starts, stops and tough conversations we're getting somewhere in the process. I'm very comfortable dialing and using ranging reticles to shoot as far as I need to and have lots of practice. So I'm good with just about any combo. My kids aren't. I'm setting them up with simple...
Well I’m finally going back! In May I’m taking my two kids to Namibia. I went back when they were in grade school and they loved the picts and stories I brought back so I promised them that I’d take them if they graduated from college. Well, they have and I am. I’ve given them a trophy fee...
As I write this I’m camped at the Marriott hotel in Grande Prairie Alberta. Tomorrow the outfitter is picking me up to check site in and take me to his cabin an hour away. I’m 3 flights and 1200 miles from home and Monday I start hunting whitetails for the first time! I’m a west coast hunter so...
Just finished brass prep on 500rds of 17x223 and 600rds of 20 practical. Ready to prime and load. Betcha can’t guess what I’ll be doing in the next couple of days.😀
Taking my kids to eastern Oregon to pop a couple thousand sage rats! The sun is out and so are they! 1k rds of 22rf, 1k rds of...
I've been out of the game for a while. Getting kids graduated from college, divorce (no more liberal chicks for me), and a job that burns a lot of hours. Thought I'd jump back in with both feet!
The top one is a Win 70 30-06 rebarrelled to a 280AI. I replaced the mag box with a 3.6" one and...
Good Morning,
Picked up a 6.5 Creed in a Kimber 84 a while back. I've always shot 129-147gr bullets in my other guns with great results. Built a couple good loads for the gun already but recoil is a little stiff because the gun is pretty light. I'm looking for a hunting bullet/load for my...
Found this the week before Christmas. It's a 338-06 built on pre '64 Win 70, 23" featherweight barrel in a custom stock. It's been hunted but it's in very good shape. The bore is about as pristine as it can get. Found it on GB for 750$. Merry Christmas to me! I'll try 200grABs and 210 Partitions...
Haven't decided on final chambering but I have a fast twist(7.5) .257 Brux barrel and a bunch of 131gr Blackjack bullets. I'm considering several cartridges that I have parent brass and dies for already. 257 Roberts AI, .25 x 284 or a 25 Pronghorn(WSM). Most likely built on a win 70. The Rob Ai...
I've always wanted a collection of WWII arms beside my Grandfather's 1911. Well I pulled a trigger on a Springfield 1903A3 today. What bullets you think it'll like?
Just picked this up from my gunsmith! 338x28Nosler, the chamber and magazine are set up to shoot an OAL of 3.6". Built on a Win 70 CRF 300Bee from the late 90's. 26" PacNor barrel in 1 in 9 twist #2.5 profile with one of Nathan's Beast brakes. It's bedded in an older M40 type McMillan stock that...
My first try will be the 265gr ABLR in my 338x28Nosler. Looking for second bullet to try. It'll need to be a tough bullet with a good BC. This combo will be my #1 rifle I take on my elk hunt this year.
Thoughts?

I demilled all my 28 Nosler loads due to them showing pressure. Turned the necks to remove a troublesome donut. Turns out that was the problem. No more pressure spikes. I took the opportunity to try a couple other powders and they worked pretty well.
I also put some new loads through the...
Six years ago I drew an Oregon Wenaha bow tag(3000 applicants for 40 tags) and had an amazing hunt. I wasn't expecting to draw because it took about 16 points and I only had 5 points. I called 13 branch bulls in, passed on 2 and missed the biggest one of all. Best time ever. I was between jobs...
Pretty maids all in a row. 28Nosler and 6.5Creedmoor
Today was a busy day in the mancave. I prepped a lot of brass.
200 28Nosler chamfered, annealed and primed. I had already sized and neck turned these.
100 Hornady 6.5Creedmoor resized, cleaned, trimmed, chamfered, annealed and primed.
100 Win...
Back when the 26Nosler came out I fell in love with the case. I thought it was a bit much for a 26 but thought a 7mm would be great. I found a great deal on 26 brass and bought a bunch; planning to wildcat a few rounds. I built my 28Nosler and had great success with it and the neck upped brass...
I spent the day at the range on Monday. I tried out some new tools/toys and worked out a few of my rifles. The range is only 20 minute from the house and has 50-100yd. ranges. I do my load work and sight ins here.
The Labradar and Pig saddle/Tripod both are worth the money.
The 223 Howa keeps...
Mostly for blacktails but might take her to Wy for Antelope some day. It's a Howa 1500 in 6.5 Creedmoor stocked in a B&C youth stock. Just breaking it in, will start load work soon. It's a handy little rifle, weighs about 6.5 pounds. The trigger is really crisp and it's easy to shoot. I tried...
Bought a Howa 1500 Mini barreled action in .223 to make a 6mm TCU. Bolted it into a B&C M40 and took it the range to practice social distancing. It shot several groups like this with my AR15 plinking ammo. Crap! That's 10 shots out of a warm barrel!
