Hi Darkhorse,
Thank you for your input.
I can see from your precision, and from your meticulous record-keeping, that your methods are a worthy advice. I will be trying what you suggest.
When you speak of "Peak of a Node," are you referring to the wave cycles of the barrel's vibration?
So.....
I went to the range with some closer-to-the-lands loads. I also took Dwh7271's suggestion, and loaded 3 at 0.080" off, and 3 at 0.100". The following are the results of 3-shot groups with the loads closer to the lands:
0.020" off = 1.18" group
0.015" off = 2.50"
0.008" off = 1.50"
From...
Thanks, Mark.
I have several loads for this rifle that shoot under 1 MOA with the WIN 748, including 165 Partitions, and Hornady's 165 Interbonds. So, it's kinda my go-to start.
But yes, maybe you're right, and I'll have to move to a different powder with the Accubonds. I would still like to...
I had a bit of unexpected results at the range, with 165g Accubonds recently.
308 WIN
Win 748 - 47.2gr
CCI 250 mag primers
Worked up my max at 10 thou off the lands. (Can probably go hotter, especially as I intended to increase the jump to the lands, but noticed some ejector markings at 47.5 -...
Hi
Been away a while....
Recently picked up some accubond 165g bullets to try in my 308WIN.
I'm hoping to check out how they compare to the Partition load I have loaded for years:
RP Brass
CCI 250 Mag Primers
Nosler Partition, 165gr spitzer
Win 748 - 47.0 gr
OAL - 2.810"
If I remember...
Thank you all for your input.
I guess I'll trust and stick to the .010" off that I've been using, and just do a bit of tweaking with the charge. There looked like some promise at the 46.0 gr mark.
Recently, I had to change primers because of unavailability of CCI 250 in my area.
So I switched to Win LRM.
I am loading the 165 Partition, 308 Win, Rem brass, 45.5 - 47.5 gr Win748. The CCI primered load was pretty hot at 47gr. The Win primers are showing no signs of pressure whatsoever at...
Of course, your blanks wont function the action (right?)
Just a spark to my curiosity..... is it possible to make a blank that will operate the action of a semi-pistol?
I haven't shot 100's of coyotes, but shot a few with 55gr-224 and more with the 243.
The 70gr Solid Base and then the 70BT were always my favourite. Dont have access to my reloading log right now, so I'm not sure of the exact load. H414 worked, but I found H380 more accurate in my gun, 2-1/4 "...
I'm not so sure that the temp is so critical. I've always stood up my brass in a cookie sheet with about .75 to 1" of water to ensure that there is no annealing of the case head or web. I apply the torch flame where the neck meets the shoulder, alternating from side to side to get the heat...
Thank you for your responses.
I'll have to check on availability of Imperial and/or RCBS on the north side of the border.
Are there any Canadian's out there who can tell me if Midway will ship to us?
Recently, I got a case stuck something bad in a die. Then did it again, before realizing that a can of "One Shot" had been in the cupboard too long and was no longer doing the job it was supposed to be.
I liked the One Shot product because it was easy to use, and was supposed to be...
A very Merry Christmas to all at this site, and to hunters and shooters around the world.
May God Bless you and keep you in the coming year.
Thanks to all who gave me advice since I signed up a couple months ago.
Hi L&L
I wasn't going to comment here because I've never loaded 200g'ers in my 308's.
I've killed several bull moose with 180 PT and a couple with 165 PT. Both work superbly. (Shot a couple in the old days with good ole Remington Core-Lokt 180's as well.)
I've often argued that the 308 is a...
An interesting post. I had a similar experience with Hornady's Interbond bullets.
I had loaded a 50-batch of 165g in 308Win for a moose hunting trip. The trip got cancelled, and the shells sat in my lockbox for 3-4 years, so I decided to use them up on a deer hunting trip. Fabulously accurate --...
hi Screamin
I'm pretty sure Ive got some of these somewhere in the back of my bullet shelves.
I can have a peak for you.... maybe tonight and let you know. Do you have a product code?
Challenge: I'm north of the border. Where 'you at?
Got a question for those of you who know more about it than me.....
I have an older electronic bore cleaner. The type you put the rod down the barrel, fill with electrolyte, apply electricity. Uses the copper fouling in the bore to plate the rod, thus removing the copper completely from the...
