Varmageddon 70gr vs Big Bad Songdogs.........

Scotty,
I was toying with trying 46gr of 760/414 and that 70gr Varmageddon? That sound about right?..

Aye aye , cap. ;-)

Jim,
No have I have not tryed the 90gr AB bullet, but the 95gr BT works well on whitetail deer!
I suspect the AB bullet would be a great choice for a pelt sensitive fella, as I expect you would get lots of pass throughs with a small exit hole?
My hope here was to find a bullet that will explode about 3/4 of the way through them and leave an area roughly the size of a regulation football, as the wound channel

I am thinking your right Scotman........ the 243 is going out with me, in a scarboard, on the snowmoble, for calling with the fox pro, so need to load some of those Varmageddys up and try a few on old Wiley! We got 7/8"of ice now, so its good going on the lakes. Had a foot of new snow yesterday. So we can now hunt anywhere we want to!
Have a hunter coming in later in month, so will be trying the 243, out on the trail!
25 Whelen will be staying put in the craddle watching the bait pile?....

...might want to keep your eyes open for some 70gr. BlitzKings or TNT's if the others don't work out...

On another note Gene, have you ran the 90 grain Blitzkings from a 25-06? Great BC for the bullet.

They are loaded 46.5gr of 414, will take some photos of the first victim!
I do wanta get some of those 90gr Blitzkings for my 25 cal. I am sure they would be alot better long range bullet , than these pro hunters ......... :(

I haven't shot 100's of coyotes, but shot a few with 55gr-224 and more with the 243.
The 70gr Solid Base and then the 70BT were always my favourite. Dont have access to my reloading log right now, so I'm not sure of the exact load. H414 worked, but I found H380 more accurate in my gun, 2-1/4 " groups at 300 yds. 3,330 fps.
From what I've noticed, keep the bullet in the ribs, and they make smalll exit wounds, golf-ball size or less. Shoot them in the shoulder, and you will experience more pelt damage, sometimes catastrophic.
I have gone back to lead-tip bullets for only one reason. In the rurals where I hunt, I found that the BT's tend to richocet more off of hard snow, absolute bad news when you're not out in the middle of nowhere. I assume the super-pointy nosed bullets tend to hit the ground with the ogive more so than a less pointy lead nose bullet. The old Solid Base was fabulous. I wish Nosler would bring it back.

Let is know what you come up with E. Those should work real well and give nasty smack down results on coyotes.

I'll be watching for a update. I bought 1000 62grn .224 blems a while back to try on Wile E. I'll be shooting them in a 223 though. Hopefully I'll have enough Velocity to get some explosive expansion without an exit. I get roughly 2950 with 60grn V-Max's now.

Lol, pretty good one isnt it! That guy is around 6' tall, if I recall it was around 55 lbs. They never weigh as much as you think they do! Those 70gr Armageddons shot great in the old 243, tryed em yesterday
And shot a 1.5" group @200 yds, so real happy with that out of that pencil barreled Ultra Light Ruger!

Sounds like a great set up. Should tear a dog down.

Well it couldnt do any worse than the luck I had with those darn 87gr Vmax bullets! They did pretty much exactly what they were NOT soposed to! Possibly if they were traveling a few hundred fps they would perform correctly , but I was sending them airmail @3100 and still had them exit coyotes end for end.......... way to many run offs. Switched over to my 270 with 110gr
Hollow points and started sending them to coyote heaven instantly again....... now we will see how these little Varmageddons work???
