I use 225gr AB's and TTSX's on my 338-06AI. A medium/hot load to fire-form brass with H414 powder. Shoots great groups for fire forming rounds. Reloads for the AI formed brass shoots a bit faster but really no improvements in tighter groups. Love this rifle.
I use both the 225gr AB's and TTSX in my AI version with H414.
I would like to build a light weight version off a Sako m75 with lightweight stock, with 22" #3 barrel fluted and shoot 185gr TTSX. Be a sweet mountain rifle.
Your 270 WSM with the 140gr AB's will do a great job on moose as well. (y) I have been very impressed with this caliber and bullet combo on big game. Not saying your 300WM wont work-its nice to have a backup rifle. The 300WM -that's my traditional moose camp rifle so it goes out every year...
I got drawn for bull moose and cow elk for this year !! We have 4 moose tags in our camp for this year!!
The "Trophy Full Curl" Bighorn sheep will have to wait one more year so my knee can be fully healed up from surgery plus I am too out of shape...lol FAT with a "PH" lol. I am a priority...
Must be hunting close to the Whitecourt / Edson / Fox Creek area. Good luck and have fun !!
I leave on October 1st with my hunting buddies for our annual moose hunt. Cant wait !! I have one of the draw tags this year in our group.
As far as bullets, we use 180gr Accubonds (I reload 180 AB's...
Been using reloads of 180gr AB's in my 300WM since 2005 to hunt moose, elk, bear, deer in Alberta. Love the performance. Its my reloading bullet of choice in most of my hunting rifles.
I have been shooting 180gr premium bullets in my Sako m75ss 300WM since new in 1997 -Factory loads in...
Great whitetail your buddy took there Guy Miner !!
Getting jealous of seeing successful hunts being posted. My hunting group leaves a week later this year for our annual moose hunting trip (Oct.10). My oldest boy (9) gets to come out again for the first few days and has been pumped since last...
I was getting very close to 3300ft/s with 140gr AB's and Retumbo in my two 270WSM's. One rifle LOVED the Compressed load of 71.0grains.
I am tempted to try the 1050's in my "new-to-me" Sako m75ss 270WSM that I bought couple years ago...never shot it yet, but I know my Tikka T3 LS 270WSM's shot...
Cant comment on RL25. My 300WM loves RL22 and 180gr AB's. My rifle (Sako m75ss) is 74.3gr and my buddy with the identical rifle is 75.0gr
Never needed to try another powder (I have lots of different ones), just happy with the RL22 plus I cant seem to find the time to reload lately.
YOur 185gr TTSX would be fine.
I use 225gr Accubonds and TTSX's in my 338-06AI. I built the rifle to shoot the heavier bullets as I use the 180gr AB's in my 300WM.
A 210 Swift Scirocco or TTSX or 200gr AB would be another good choice.
Sorry to hear about the meat loss...that SUCKS !!!
Happened to me a few years back. Lost lots of moose and elk burger / steaks and roasts PLUS some beef cuts when we butchered a steer and a couple of turkeys and some salmon/halibut fillets. Probably 300-400 pounds of meat. I was going to...
IMO, 180gr bullet is the most ideal weight for the 300WM.
I have been using RL 22 with 180gr AB's in my 300WM since 2005. Hunt from +25 C to -35C, no issues for me here in Alberta with temperature sensitivity that I have noticed at the range or the big game harvested....hard for them to tell...
Congrats to all on their 2014 Hunting Season. I enjoy looking at pics and reading the stories.
Update from my Page 6 posting in 2014 Hunting Pictures.
Successful moose camp. (y) . From the 2013 being SKUNKED for the first time ever hunting in the same area for 22 years-wolves were...
