So why doesn't nosler use standard or current powders for their testing in the book I can find 270 H4831sc loads but on line its not included? The same with 308 and 150 or 165 varget loads. These are 2 standards that almost every one uses?
How do you read the OAL suggested lenght on the web...
Thanks guys I have Varget and RL-15 to play with so I will try some with each and hit the range. I have good results with the 165 BT so far and have not tried Accubonds yet but will start with 165 partitions. I have gotten good accuracy with the Pro hunter Sierra in 150 grain as well using Varget.
Well I solved the BT problem I had 5 in at less than inch close to a 1/2 inch and one out to about a inch those bullets work. I may just give up on the Accubond for now. Those are still hanging in at inch and half and scattered.
I am going to shoot them tomorrow. I am worried though because I had a similar problem with my Winchester AW rifle in a 270. Same problem in that rifle although I can get on a perfect day for me less than inch at 200 with 3 or 4 shots with the partitions. I guess they can handle the jump to...
My loads were 46 varget 150 accubond and 44 for the 165 BT. I know they would shoot if I ran them .010 to .020 off the lands I tried that. But I can't load them that long to fit the box. This is a 308.
Thanks guys never really thought about tweaking the powder now usally I load that up front until I find a decent group I will do some tweaking this weekend thanks. In the worst case I can always fall back on a partition as if that is a bad thing.
get good groups due to my mag limitations? If I seat them out closer to the lands I am getting great groups if I want to shoot a single shot? Question has any one else had this problem? I will go to partitions next I had a similar problem with my 270?
When I seat them long I can easily get...
Thanks guys Baltz I loaded up some 47 grains of Varget and will try it next weekend.
The question was where am I at on my OAL. My measurements to the lands were 3.307 I have dropped back to 3.236 to fit my mag. So that is around .07 off the lands.
I have had a heck of a time getting these bullets to shoot. I was at the range today and the Sierra Pro king 150 I had a 6 shot group right at a inch at 200 yards the Accubond are all over the place. I had tried 46 grains of Varget and seated them as long as the mag would allow me. Any...
I would look at the 165 partition it will be better for you on those close shots your talking 125 to zero and it will do every thing you need for deer. It won't blow up on the shoulder at 20 yards good luck.
Thanks guys now I am working up a 150 partition load and if it shoots close to a inch at 100 I will take it. Do you think I can get away with the 130 for elk? Normaly I bow hunt for elk and rifle hunt for deer but we drew a tag this year so I will be rifle hunting with the family?
Today at the range I had a 1/2 inch group at 200 yards with my new 270 Winchester ALL weather rifle. My first 3 shots out of a clean barrel. I quite right there grin I knew it looked good though the spotting scope. Last week I had .6 inch group. I am shooting those darn 130 partitions and...
MY new All weather M70 in a 270 now that I have the load worked out I can keep under a inch all day and there are days when I do my part it can shoot at 1/2 inch so this will be my first year to hunt with it so we will see. My last range trip I had a 1.5 inch group at 200 off the bench.
I hit it perfect last week 030 off the lands just about as long as I can get and I was getting actual .6 groups which for me is just fine with my shooting. I had one shot out of a clean barrel that pulled me out or it would have been .5 and my worst group was right at 1 inch.
I am shooting the...
Thanks JD I was not able to get them that close to the lands ran out of magazine space. But thanks I was wondering what others had done. I have two buddies with 270's both are shooting rugers and they can seat their bullets much longer than I can? But it is working well now so I am happy.
