150 Accubond and 30-06

Dr. Mike and Scotty,
Well the dark side of it speaks when the Whelen goes off and as my Dad always says you can't beat the power of a 35 Whelen. After he shot his first buck at 50 yds he stated, "he went 3 ft. sideways and was just laying there, I mean he didn't run off like with the other gun I used"!

That says it all right there. Although I like my other guns the Whelen is near and dear!
I had some thoughts of re-barreling the 30-06 to a 35 Whelen. Now if Nosler would bring back the Ballistic Tips for the Whelen

"Lately I'm just SPOILED with the 35 Whelen! What else is there to say?"

Absolutely NOTHING!

Right now I'm planning on working up some 180 gr. Accubonds for my 30-06. Got the bullets.Got the primers and brass but when I called just about every on line dealer looking for some Re22 to try, not one teeny kernal of powder in stock. No store in town has any except one and I refuse to pay $60 a pound. Guess I'll have to look at alternatives that I have on hand. Oh well, I have plenty of time as the hunt isn't until next January. Just have to keep on looking.

You got that right. It hammers deer with the right bullets.

Range Update:

I love it when Quickload is close enough! 59.8 grains H4350, 150 AB, CCI BR primers, varying seating depth:

2.714 CBTO, avg velocity 2991 fps for the 4 shots

2.634 CBTO, avg velocity 2975 fps for the 4 shots

Both are definitely good enough for deer hunting this fall. I don't know that I'll do many tests, as I don't want to run short on H4350 or 150 ABs. I like the shape of the 2.714 CBTO group better--the other appears to have more vertical stringing. Of course, that could be the shooter...

I adjusted the scope for the bottom group, resulting in what appears to be a change of POI. I turned 4 clicks left; looks like I need 2 more clicks left, and 2 clicks up. Then I should be good to go this fall. I'll have to do some final testing after we move, to make sure the rifle/scope didn't get dinged up during the move.
