I really had trouble getting decent groups with GMX bullets in my .280, but was determined to hunt with them anyway. Opening day several years ago I got a forky buck with them. The buck was moving at the shot and the bullet went through about 4" of a 6" diameter oak tree before hitting the deer. It made a large entrance wound and bigger exit, but it did exit. Shot was only about 50 yards, so it probably didn't matter that I was only getting 1.5" groups at 100. I wouldn't hesitate to use those 139gr gmx's of mine or 150 gr Etips in 30-06 on elk or moose. Those solid bullets penetrate like crazy.
If I hadn't worked out such a good AccuBond load for that gun recently, I'd still use those 139gr gmx's. I was seating those .010" off the lands just like the Hornady book said, but it didn't work well in my gun. If I rework that gmx load, I'll try seating at .050" off and then at .10" off the lands to see if it helps with better acccuracy. Good luck with it and let us know how you do. BN
