150gr GS GV in 3006

Well...sorry...not trying to mislead anyone. I may have to visit the gscustom website and take a look at their current bc's they were insanely over stated years ago...that was probably 10 years ago or more.
If i remember right you pressure tested a load a while ago that turned out really fast and in spec in your marlin. Any plans to do the same with the gs custom?

I appreciate your response to my strong and frank comment, and I also apologize for coming on so strong. I have done a good bit of range work along and four years of field work and saw the field results of my shots and those I hunted with. To answer your question I have not pressure tested the GS HV. I did not find it necessary to do so since the 150gr Sierra was 150fps slower than the GS HV with about the same charge of powder. My assumption is that it is giving more velocity for about he same pressure as the 150gr Seirra SBT.

I just checked some of my records and found a mini test I did in my 23" tikka 06.
W/federal brass 60.0 re17 and a 150 ttsx did 3100.
Same brass 60.5 re17 under the gs custom did 3150.
No pressure signs or primer pocket expansion on the federal brass that I could notice.
That's why I chose easy expanding fed brass for the mini test.
I think you are pretty far ahead of my methods and use case head expansion and you have it down to a pretty good science.
When I bought my stash of gs customs years ago I bought some 7mm, 270, and 308 cause of the high shipping. The hollow point consistancy in those days was way ahead of the tsx....the ttsx wasn't out yet.
If i remember playing with those in a couple diiferent guns I found the gs to be slower than other bullets w/moderate loads....that made me think the driving bands were indeed reducing friction and more powder would be needed than other bullets to get them up to speed.....that's what their website also suggested in that era.
All I can say is it might be possible that as you get to Max loads they act like other bullets but can't say why.
Then again the ttsx especially in light for caliber bullets can take alot of powder and go fast.

In my Mark V 06 24" barrel I achieved 3154fps using RL-17.

I never had any of the TSX or TTSXs get close to the velocity of the GS HV before reaching their max.

Also, I think we all need to satisfy our own desires concerning bullets, loads, rifles and scopes, but I also think we should share our findings.

I can't figure how to post pics off my tablet w/o going photobucket or I'd post a sexy pick of a 130 gs sitting atop a 7-30 waters that's pretty long throated....about 6 bands showing. It shoots 1" groups out of my contender pistol w/2_8 Leu on top.
I wouldn't hesitate to punch even a carribou out to 150 w/that set up. Certainly would have more faith in the performance of the big uniform hollow point than a tsx.
That's about the only gs I have loaded now. Been dealing w/a bad family illness for almost 3 years and shooting hunting is on hold. I have to "experience it all" through everyone else's work and posts for now.

Sorry about the family illness and hope that you can get back out to shoot and hunt. If I shot the 130 in my 06 you talk about blazing speed. After this coming fall I may try the 130 for fun.

A buddy of mine and i are running the 110 ttsx at 3450 in our 06s. The 130 ttsx does 3550 out of my 300 win tikka. The 150 ttsx does 3500 out of my 300 wby. All of these well under moa in plain factory rifles.
I have some of the 95 ttsx for the 6.8 loaded in my marlin 270 win....haven't been able to test but looks like 3500 fps should be ez. Also have some of the 110 ab nosler set to gly under Max loads re17 in that 270.
