I managed to thump a moose this morning and recovered the second bullet from my rifle.
Moose was 221 yards away, perfect broadside shot at daybreak.
First shot was textbook behind the shoulder lung shot and made him a very sick moose. He was stumbling toward some thick brush and the second shot put him on the ground at the treeline. Speed at impact would have been 2500fps or so.
I recovered one of the bullets, the other left a nice large exit wound. Recovered bullets was 124.1 grains for 69% weight retention. The .308 bullet expanded to 0.561" for a 1.8x (!) expansion. The moose was good sized, probably a 4 or 5 year old and would have went 1000 lbs or so on the hoof.
