Most of the hunting I do is for 100-150lb deer and 200lb or less meat pigs. I use a 150gn non-premium competitors bullet. I use a 308. I have been invited to go hunting where, they say, there is a chance to shoot a 500lb pig. I am considering loading a 200gn Partition to about 2350fps. Will this bullet just pass through the smaller deer? A ll shots will be 150yds or less. What would you recomend.   :?:

If I were you,and I can't say why, I would go with the 180gr. AccuBond or Partition. In a .308,you would get more velocity and the bullets I mentioned will hold together to get the job done. Before going to a magnum,I hunted with a .308 for 21 years as my only rifle. It never failed me and I always shot solid bases and partitions. Good luck.

The 200 gr Partition will in 308 Winchester will work within your 150 yard range limit. Impact velocities need to be 1800fps in order for the 200 Partition to expand and given the B.C. of .481 for the 200gr 30 cal Partition, you should get expansion out to your 150 yard range limitation. So yeah it will pass through and expand in small deer with your 308 Win. with a muzzle velocity of 2350 fps. Just watch what is behind the deer since you’ll probably completely penetrate through the deer. I hope that helps.
