Heres a photo of my 1st season Oregon Coast bull
Shot 2nd day in the Alsea Unit.
We hunt the timber and i was sneaking along and spotted him feeding at about 200 yards.
He was on a slope of about 60% and I was above him.
I waited until he turned broad side and fired my model 700 350 remington Mag.
The hit was behind the shoulder and it angled down through the lungs taking out the ribs
and lungs. The bullet the went into the leg bone and broke the lower leg just above the joint.
Bull went down instantly.

This bull was quarterd and back was 1.25 miles
Took 4 packs to get him out.

Wow, what a horse! Great shooting, that looks like an excellent jungle bull! What bullet were you shooting in your 350? Congrats on the bull! Scotty

Congratulations on a great bull. That was a chore. I've had great success with the 350 RM in a Remington 673. I, too, wonder what bullet you're shooting?

I should have put the bullet in my original post and forgot to.
I shoot the Seirra 225 but i also have loaded up the Nosler partion 225.
I,m still shooting the Seirra hand have had good luck with it.
This is my 9th bull with the 350 and 225 Sierra loaded to 2550 fps.
When I first got the 700 Classic the choice for bullets were either the Sierra or a Hornaday 250 round nose or remington 200.
I will switch to the 225 Nosler when i run out of the Sierra's.

The Sierras shoot very well for me in my 350 RM, and they do a great job of dropping game.

Ram161,
Hunting the coast can be short range proposition! Congratulations on dumping one in the "Jungle"

Congrats on the hunt. good bull. We refer to the red alder as "mountain misery" and have tons of it up here aswell.

Nice work RAM!

One of these days I'm going to head to your side of the state and try to get me one of those rainforest horses with horns that you guys call elk! Don't here about a 350 RM much. Sounds perfect for that thick nasty stuff over there.

Excellent looking bull, congrats. I too have a 350 rem mag in the 700 classic but I have yet to kill an elk with it, would have this year if I took it instead of my 8mm RM on opening morning. Maybe next year I will.

You feeling empathy for a pack mule there? Nice bull, great cartridge. I'da been surprised it it'd done anything less than what it did.

Thanks Guys,
I would have got back earlier but was traveling to Idaho to visit family,
I love the 350 for the coast jungle elk.
Shots can range from 30 yards to 200 yards.
The are we hunt is all timber with Sword fern areas, Salal areas with oregon grape mixed in,
to salmon berry and vine maple.
We have caught the elk laying in the salal and they will lay there until you are almos on them.
This is a tough area to sneek through unless it is raining to help cover the noise.
I also have a 8mm RM but have not killed with it yet.
Pack mule would be great and we have discussed it,but hopefully we can get grandkids started packing soon.

Now that is funny. We both have the same 2 chamberings and have each taken animals with the opp of the 2 chamberings.
