Highs in the upper 60's and crunchy snow up high made for a tough elk hunt this year. However, our group was able to harvest a 4X4 and 6X6, during Oregon's 1st season Rocky Mountain Elk hunt.

I shot this bull on the third day of the five day hunt, at almost 3,000 feet lower than the wilderness area that we traditionally tend to focus on. He was the last in a herd of roughly 30 critters, and I shot him at about 175 yards, using my trusty Browning A-Bolt, in .338 Winchester Magnum, over 72.0 grains of RL19 pushing a 225 grain Barnes TSX.

Here are a few photos from the trip and the recovered bullet:

Congratulations! You connected with a great bull. You fellows managed to score well.

Very well done ! The old .338 did actually what it was designed to do, kill elk!

Its also really nice to have all that help along to tote out the 1/4s.

Wow! Congrats all around! That is just way to cool. Great looking Bull and that looks like a great hunt. Question- noticed a couple of unique slings on your rifles. slung over the shoudler, hanging under the arm/in front. Can you tell me any more about them? thanks CL

Congratulations!

That's a mighty nice bull, and it looks like you guys had a great time too.

Congrats on a great bull, that must have been awesome to see him and be able to put him down.

That is a excellent Bull :) the 338win mag is as fine a Elk gun as you are going to find. It is sure nice to see a group do so well!!! Good job Fellas.

Blessings,
Dan

Thanks guys! Cloverleaf, the slings are made by Safari Slings, and my buddies purchased them at Fisherman's Marine, in Portland, OR. Looks like you can also get them at Cabela's and Midway USA. They allow you to pull up your rifle while still wearing the sling. The guys seem to like them pretty well.
