Highs in the upper 60's and crunchy snow up high made for a tough elk hunt this year. However, our group was able to harvest a 4X4 and 6X6, during Oregon's 1st season Rocky Mountain Elk hunt.
I shot this bull on the third day of the five day hunt, at almost 3,000 feet lower than the wilderness area that we traditionally tend to focus on. He was the last in a herd of roughly 30 critters, and I shot him at about 175 yards, using my trusty Browning A-Bolt, in .338 Winchester Magnum, over 72.0 grains of RL19 pushing a 225 grain Barnes TSX.
