Just drew a Bighorn Sheep tag for Oregon's Coleman/East Guano unit! I'm still bumbling around and not making much sense. Anyone on this forum who has had that tag and willing to chat about locations to focus on? I'll be taking the family down for a weeks' worth of scouting around the 4th of July. Can't wait for the search to begin.

From Nevada border on Colman rim start looking on the top about 1 mile from border north to the breaks above 140. Saw a big Pod of sheep on top one day Deer hunting. Some sign elsewhere but most was just east of your boundry on beatys butte and surrounding high ridges/buttes

Thanks so much guys...I'm still reeling. In Oregon you can't build points for Bighorns and Mt. Goats, but you're allowed to shoot any ram.
I'm currently leaning towards my Browning A-Bolt in a .300 WSM shooting 180 grain TSXs over 70.0 grains of IMR 7828ssc. It was the hammer of Thor on my spring black bear at 350+ yards this May.
I'd really like to use my Mark V .257 Weatherby, but it's sporadic at best with it's groupings. On a good day it shoots around 3/4" but most days it's around 1 1/2" to 2" with the same loads. It's shooting the Weatherby factory rounds loaded with the 100 grain Norma Softpoints just over an inch...that would do, but I'd like to be shooting the 115 grain TSX or 120 grain Partition.
I'll also be taking my trusty .30-06 A-Bolt as back-up with 165 grain Sierra Gamekings. The Leupold on this one has the standard duplex reticle, while the .300 WSM is topped with a Leupold VXIII and their B&C reticle, and the .257 WBY is topped with a Leupold VXII and their LR reticle.
It's all I can due to wait until June 30th when I can get away from work for a few days of scouting. Thanks again!

That 300 WSM will be a great rifle for a sheep hunt. It will serve you well. The 180 grain TSX will work for you, I have no doubt.

You will have a great hunt and sounds like you have a lot of help already. I will add to talk with the biologists in burns, they were great help when I had my tag in 2001.
At that time it was all Beatys unit.
I know you do a lot of hiking on your elk and bear hunts so being in shape won't be a problem just carry more then enough water.

Thanks, Charlie! This unit just cuts out the Pueblos from the main unit. I was surprised how big it was actually, it even takes in Beatys Butte itself. Got some great maps from the BLM in Springfield today. They beat the old blue line maps I've been using for years for antelope out there.
