That's a great hunt Jake, congratulations. That's about 3 seasons worth of coyotes for me. Nicely done buddy!

The DNR issued us some Disease Control tags because of CWD in our area. I set up on a heavily used runway close to a bedding area and shot this doe. She was aged at 8.5 years old and tested ok. The 338 RUM with a 250 gr AB dropped her in her tracks.
Going to turn her into pepper stick.

Way to go, Jim. I bet those pepper sticks will taste great. 8-1/2 y.o. is getting up there in age for a deer isn't it?

Jim, I learned a long time ago that when the .338RUM speaks things usually happen very quickly. I have yet to have an Elk run away from a 225 Grain Partition or prohunter. Quite the Caliber!

Thank you fellas. I really like hunting with the big 338 RUM. It just flattens everything it hits. That is the 7th deer I've taken with the new barrel.
We have a lot of deer on our property. Here is a picture from Sunday morning. I'd say that the rut is still on!

My wife shot her big Tom on opening day of the 2020 MI Turkey Season at 20 yards with her T/C Encore Hunter and the 12 ga Turkey barrel topped with a Leupold 3x fixed power scope and loaded with a Winchester 3" Long Beard 1 3/4 oz of #5's. The Tom came in on a string and put on a magnificent show strutting all the way.
Sue did a fantastic job waiting on him to come out of strut so she could take a good shot at the head and neck for a perfect clean kill. He has a 10" beard and the spurs are 15/16" each, a darn nice Tom!
I'm proud of her!

Bitter Sweet ending
Last fall Sue shot a dandy 8 pt chasing a doe with her xbow. He ha passed by her stand and didn't offer her a shot and was heading my way. She sent me a text giving me the heads up. About 10 minutes later I saw the doe and hot on her tail was a dandy buck heading directly to me. At 30 yards, the doe busted me and went back the way they came from taking lover boy with her. I sent a text back to Sue telling her. When they crossed the creek, I texted her again and said, "Get ready". Seconds later I heard all hell broke loose. Then my phone buzzed with a message "I think I missed". I got over to get stand about 45 minutes later and Sue showed me the scene. The bolt was in a log smeared in blood! Blood everywhere! Body hair indicated solid hit! I started blood trailing awesome blood trail 50 yards to the marsh. He ran across the he waist deep marsh and the blood trail became sparse. I followed it to the neighbors property where I had to give up the search. We determined that her shot was deflected and ended up with a liver shot.
Well my daughter found him the other day,it looks like he doubled back to the marsh. She spotted the skull sticking up out of the water. He's a decent buck!

Heartbreak, but those things do happen. You gave it a good effort, but the wily old buck sought out what he felt was a place for him to hole up until he could heal. Unfortunately for all concerned, his healing wasn't in the cards. Still, a dandy buck. I'm just sorry Sue didn't get a chance to take him home. He did pass on his genes, so there is that.

That is a heartbreak for sure. Sorry to hear that Sue didn't get to tag that buck last fall. It is a nice buck. From the sounds of it the animal didn't last very long. But, at least she has closure now.

Spent the morning in the turkey woods with my favorite call a copper call in a cocobolo pot I made a few years ago...Had several hens show up and one small, loud mouth Jake. He never got any closer than 70 yards. But I didn't want to shoot a small Jake, anyway.
