2025 Hunting Season

My son got to harvest his first bull elk yesterday in Washington state. Main frame 6 point with an extra point on an eye guard. Shot was 578 yards, 300 win mag with 210 Berger hunting vld. I found this bull in September with his ladies, he was still in this area in October but had lost 7 ladies. My son actually spotted him yesterday slipping back in and was the only elk spotted. He was headed back to his bedding area that I had watched him previous times. His first shot went high above shoulder as he slightly quartered to us , his second shot took him low in the chest. The bull slid down hill not feeling well fell down but regained his footing. I told my son get another in him and his angle was the back end was all , so boom he broke the bulls hip. The bull slid down and lodged himself behind the tree . Got to the bull at 915 am and last load was in truck by 721 pm. It was a stellar and brutal day.

Beautiful bull Eric, congratulations to your son!

That bull definitely made you work! He is assuredly a handsome animal, and one for which your son has every right to be pleased.

Spent a couple of days hunting with my daughter.
She got her first snowshoe hare yesterday with her 10/22, and my wife got her first sharptail yesterday with the 28 ga!
We did see 5 caribou yesterday at long distance; 3 bulls a cow and a calf. We could not locate the bison yesterday. :(

The day before we came across a flock of mallards on a mountain stream and I was took my first duck (greenhead) ever, with the 28 ga.
I have had opportunities to shoot ducks in the past, but without a retriever have always passed as I did not see how I would ever recover the downed bird. This one was where it just floated downstream a little ways into the shallows where I could get it. Luckily I had my rubber boots with me!
While I have eaten domestic ducks, this will be my first taste of a wild duck! Looking forward to it.

Was a fun couple of days! Saw some great country!
Probably take me over an hour to get all the mud out of my wheel wells today though:LOL:

Jorey,
Congratulations to your buddy and cousin those big mule deer. 98 yard shot is pretty impressive but 6 yards on a bull elk is WOW

Gil,
Congratulations to your daughter on the rabbit and to ion the green head. I understand what you mean passing up shots. I've passed on wood ducks on my pond because I didn't have a way to retireive them.
