By any chance did the tube get weighed before and after?

Looks pretty cool. I like it that people are able to do different little tricks to set their guns apart. Brux (I think) offers interrupted fluting on their barrels... might have to look into that if I ever burn out a throat in one of mine.

its a lilja navy tactical taper 1-8 twist 3 groove same setup that is on my 30-338. plan on using either 80grain bergers or vlds depending on performance for coyotes. i should be able to muster 3450+ fps. same bc as a 168 bthp match 308 only going 650 fps faster should be pretty flat shooting have not run the numbers but i think less than 20 moa to a thousand is more than likely. it will finish at 27". kampfeld customs in michigan did the fluting premium workmanship cant find a tool mark in it looks like blown glass. the price for the fluting was 150 plus one way shipping. i sent it in last thursday got it back on friday. if you have ever had custom work done to a rifle 8 days is unheard of. highly recommend them if you want any kind of fluting done.

Thanks for the info Jeff...always good to know where there is good metal workers that care about the finished product.

That's pretty neat looking Jeff and sure looks like that company "wants" to do business as shown by the quick turn-around! On a spiral flute like that besides some weight savings and and some better cooling of the barrel, what will that do to the harmonics? I was just wondering if the fluting and the sprial cuts will help dampen the degree of the barrel whip? Have you heard of any studies on that or does anyone out her in the Nosler land know of any reports?

Nice looking to say the least! Congratulations.
David

Jeff,

Sounds like a great build. Looking forward to the range report.
I think the 22-243 Middlestead is a cool round and is pure poison for coyotes.

I am not sure what the effect of the spiral has on the steel If any for that matter. For me it is purely aesthetic reasons I wanted to match the fluting on the bat machine receiver it will be mated to. This gun is built with the sole purpose of coyote hunting which I do about 5 months out of the year. Cooling will not be a factor and the weight removed is not enough to warrant it. I just thought it would look good and it does. The metal parts will be finished in light gray cerakote and sitting in a mcmillan A3 sporter arctic camo "did the arctic because you rarely see them and its different. With the components I'm using I am sure it won't leave the shop without shooting in the .4 range. The last one I had was a trued remington action and it would shoot in the .4 range so I have no doubt the bat will work just fine.

Thats neat, and you are correct in that it will look pretty sharp. We want pictures when you get it all put together! Must have pictures!

Here is another update from Jeff..
