I have only loaded 223 for my bushmaster and the first load I tried using varget as the powder was a keeper.
What are some good powder bullet combo's for the 223.
The rifle will be a Ruger mini 14 with an 18 inch bbl and a 1 in 9" twist.
The intended use will be my second amendment right, plinking and hopfully coyotes at medium to close range.

Congratulations on your rifle. I think the 60 gr BT is a great bullet for both coyotes and exercising your 2 Amendment.

I would look at Varget and RL 15.

I`ve had good results with Varget, W748, H4895, and Benchmark in my 223s. The 1/9 twist will work for just about everything up to a 69gr bullet. The only way to decide what your rifle likes best is to shot a few different loads and see.
Have fun!

+1 W/JD... the 60gr B-tip would hopefully work quite nicely in the 1:9 twist tube....
I've played with 748 , H322 , Varget & N140 All fairly decent results...

My local stores are all but out of reloading supplies but I did manage to pick up 2lbs of 748, some winchester 55gr/bt's and a 5 round magazine so I am legal for hunting.
It took three stores to put it all together.
Good thing I have a pile of primers there were NONE out there.

I have never loaded anything heavier than 55 gr. in .223, but I used a lot of H335 when I did.

#7, you're in Oregon, right? I'm pretty sure you can use a hi-cap mag for predator and varmint hunting, but if you want to go after deer or antelope, you need the five rounder.

Here are some combos that have worked for me:
Rifle: CZ 527 American 12 twist 22" bbl
50 Ballistic Tip/V-Max W748
55 Sierra Gameking SBT Varget (hunting load) H335 (accuracy load but less velocity)

Rifle: TC Encore 12 twist 26" hvy bbl
55 V-Max W748

* All powder and bullet combos shot best for me near book max or at max and Fed 205M primers were used with Hornady and Win brass with bullets seated .010" off rifling.

I've had really good results with Reloader 10X. Then again I shoot 40gr BT's out of my .223. It may be better for the lighter bullets, but I've had really good results.

Yes I am in Oregon.
I wasn't sure about predator hunting with a hi-cap mag so I bought the 5 round mag just in case. I need to get 2009 regulations and my hunting license this weekend.
I don't intend to hunt deer with it but I did take my Bushmaster AR-15 out a few years back. I got some funny looks when I was walking back up the road after a drive through a unit. I took it out only to say that you can hunt with a black rifle.

I have been getting very good accuracy out of a load consisting of 55gr. Nosler Ballistic Tips / Hodgdon H-4895 / Military LC Brass / Remington 7 1/2 Primers / Cartridge Overall Length 2.252" out of several different 1 in 9" Twist AR-15's. In a DPMS Panther Bull 20 Fluted I had the above combination would print 5 shots at 100 yards into 1/2" groups with amazing regularity. In my current 16" Bushmaster ORC the same load prints 3/4" groups.

I have tried this load in a few other AR-15's, a 14" T/C Contender Handgun and a 23" G2 Contender Rifle. All would print the above combination into sub MOA groups.

i have found with my mini 14 it is much better with heavy bullets. i use 2 loads. 64gr winchester power points with h414 and 70gr speer sssp and h414. both loads use magnum primers. i tried all nosler 223 bullets in my mini 14 but never got better than 2 1/2" 100yd groups most where in the 4"-5" range. the ruger is not the best accuracy platform but is a very dependable weapon. the 2 loads i'm using group exactly the same. 2 in a 1" bullseye dead on at 100yds, 3-2" higher 1" right in a 1 1/2" group. this is out of a 5 shot group.

I prefer 64 PP and Reloader 15 @ 25.0 I use this load for Wolf hunting.

For hunting the 60gr Nosler Part or the Barnes 62gr TSX as well as the 64gr PP are excellent.

Best bullet performance will be the TSX.

Reloader 15 or Varget is also good powder with these heavier bullets.

I use CCI Br2 or Rem 7.5 primers in Lapua Brass

With the 1:9 twist the 60's grain weight will perform excellent up to the Hornady 68gr BTHP and Sierra 69gr MK. these work excellet on Coyote and Wolf.....
