225 grain ballistic tip

I just picked up a couple of boxes of the .358, 225 grain ballistic tip bullets. My experience with the ballistic tip is limited to the 270 caliber. In the 270, the BT bullets killed whitetails like the wrath of God, but were very explosive. Has anyone here used the 225s on heavier game like elk or moose?

I haven't used them, but they wont be as explosive as the smaller calibers. Especially at your velocity. I am pretty sure that Nosler builds the .338" BT's and up tougher. They are a lot thicker at the base anyways. They should perform just fine on elk/moose. You cant expect 90% weight retention, but 60-65% shouldn't be out of the ordinary.

They work fine out of my Whelen......

Now if you're gonna launch them from a 358 STA or 358 RUM at 3000 fps +...then I will not vouch.

Grantman,

Although I am PT guy for the big stuff, I would have no problem using the 225 gr BT out of my 35 Whelen.
This bullet holds together and retains its lead core in the dreaded water jug test at 50 yds at 35 Whelen velocities.

Load it up and don't look back!

I'm shooting a Remington CDL in 35 Whelen. Last year, I put 3 of the 270 caliber Accubonds into a young bull moose. All of the shots were in the chest cavity and penetration was complete. For all practical purposes, the bull was dead after the first shot. Problem was he didn't know he was dead and neither did I! I'm hoping the Whelen will speak with more authority.

Grantman,

I have a M700 Classic in 35 Whelen.
I have used the Nosler 225 gr PT for WT Deer and Black Bear with impressive results.
Be rest assured, you will tip over the bigger critters with ease.

I shot a WT using the 225 BT this year with my Contender in .35 Remington. Judging from that, I wouldn't be afraid to shoot anything with these. Even at that modest velocity, it was impressive. I get very nice groups too.
