Learned a lot today with RL26, it goes from ZERO to HERO real quick. Aside from velocity, no other pressures appeared. Anyway, think I'll concentrate on the 2 velocity nodes around 53.5 and 54.5. Load 5 each check accuracy/ES and then take the better 1 of those and do a few different seating depths. Shes getting there. If I can get sub 2" groups at 300 yards at 3300fps I'll be happy!

So, I was looking and I dont think I'm going to explore the 54.5g node for the simple fact it's only 1g and 40fps off from blowing primers. Doesnt give me a whole lot of cushion...So I'm just going to work around the 53.3 and 53.6 load which will give me a 2g cushion and little over 100fps. 3275-3300 is still pretty good with the little 105s plus it will be a lot easier on this expensive 240 WBY brass.

I was thinking the same thing considering what happened, not worth the risk going with the higher charge especially when 53.3 and 53.6 are almost touching anyway. Not the first time I have heard of RL 26 acting this way. I had exactly the same thing happen with IMR 4955 and the 270 Win, no issues of any kind and then a blown primer.

Yah I figured I'd be getting warm once I got up to 55...oh well that's the glory of reloading, actually find the max load for your rifle with a given set of components. I havent blown a primer for about 15 years come to think of it. Back when I was purposely hot rodding 25/06s

I have never seen RL-26 act up like that. 1 grain of powder increase in that size of case should never blow a primer. Is it possible that there was some cleaning media left in the case? I’ve had Retumbo pressure spiked with a hard bolt lift but never blown primer.

No, because I havent tumbled my brass in years. They get inspected, inside of necks brushed, outside necks done with 000 steel wool, sized and loaded up and put in an MTM box. Go to the range, shoot and back in the box. Velocity was the only pressure indicator. Once I got up to 3350-3375fps I should have just stopped. I need to measure my groups from the seating depth test I did a couple days ago and post them up. They all went from around 2.25"-3" though. Few 2 and 1s, and a few triangular groups. May have to try the higher node or swap a primer just to see if I can break under 2". If not, I'll try H1000 or H4831.

So I finally got around to measuring the groups from the seating depth test. Seems to have gotten smaller the shorter I went...So I will have to load a few more up a bit shorter yet and see how they fare. May switch to a CCI250 and see how they do compared to the WLRs. If all else fails, I may just have to try H4831 or H1000 and see if the rifle or bullet just agrees with it a little more than RL26. Had a few groups with the 2 and 1 that otherwise would have been great. I know I didnt yank them, so I'm still saying the load just isnt nailed yet. I'll keep tinkering with em, still have a few bullets left. Would like to see it be in the 1"-1.5" range.
