My Ruger 25.06 hates Magpro. Retumbo, and RL 19. Any suggestions? RL 25 maybe? Think it might be the firearm itself? It did well with factory loaded 100 grain Ballistic Tips but I couldnt get 110 grain Accubonds to group well at all. Any help is appreciated

I would give IMR 4831 and H4831SC a try.

Ken Waters pet load of 56grs IMR4831 (I use a mag primer) and a 100gr bullet(I use a PAR or BT) works really well for me. It also is fast out of my Ruger M77.

Is the 110 AccuBond the only bullet you've tried in your handloads?

If the 100 Ballistic Tip factory ammo shot well, I'd try some 100 gr bullets from it first. I use H4350 with the 100 grain bullets and get over 3300 fps with good accuracy...

My cases are only neck-sized, and I'm using match grade primers as well as a very good seating die. The H4350 really works well with the 100 gr bullet, but I've also seen excellent results with H4831 and a 100 gr bullet.

Retumbo worked best for me when coupled with a 115 gr bullet.

Regards, Guy

110 Accubonds are the only ones I've tried. I think I might need to play around with seating depths as well. I'm just hoping to stay with the AccuBond since it works well on larger game like mule deer, not that B tips do not.

I can tell you from plenty of experience that some guns just do not shoot the Accubonds well, period. When they first came out in .338 caliber I tried the 225 grain versions in five different rifles before I found one that would shoot anything resembling a group. The last one shot several groups under a half inch! Go figure.

In the 25-06 you should be able to find a load that works using the 100 grain Partition and IMR4831. Myself and a number of friends have used this combination with good success. I now load IMR 4831 behind the 100 grain TSX just because of the stupid California "no lead" law.

Another very good load in the 25-06 is the 115 grain Ballistic Tip over a stiff charge of IMR 7828 sparked by a Fed 215M primer. I have shot several antelope and wild hogs with that one as well as plenty of coyotes.

I would just forget about the Accubonds and try some other bullets. Again, I have had great succes with IMR 4831 with bullets from 75 to 100 grains and IMR 7828 with the heavier bullets.

For the 25-06 it is really hard to beat H-4831 or IMR 4350. With 100 gr bullet try 52 grs IMR4350 and with the 110 gr AB try 49 to 50 grs IMR 4350 and use a CCI 250 primer. For 117 gr bullets try 52 grs H-4831 or 49 grs IMR 4350. These are standard loads that have shot in may 25-06's over the years.

I concur with most. Before giving up on the AccuBond, move to a faster powder since you've tried the slower ones. My vote is for 4350 and I would lean toward the IMR version since it is a tad faster. Also work up since a max charge may not work for you.

Ditto's for H4831SC.

I'm still in the process of testing, but RL17 has given me as tight as 5/16"
100yd groups with the 85gr BTBT. Have yet to test the heavier bullets
with it.

what other variables are we dealing with here?

how long is the barrel?

what primer?

are you using all the same brass?

trimmed?

My 25.06 didnt like magnum primers even though I was at teh magic 60 gr mark with mine and went to LR and the groups shrank.

If I were you I would start by buying some ballistic tips and shoot them until I found a powder it likes then try the accubonds. You know it shoots the ballistic tips now you got to find out what it likes to burn

my ruger 77 25/06 likes the combo of h4350, winchester brass, winchester large rifle primers and nosler 110 accubonds. 3150fps is the norm, with groups in the .25-.75" range. imr4831 gets a little more speed, with groups around .75-1.0. h4831 has always been great for me with 120gr. Hornadys too.

I am following this thread with great interest because I'm also trying to get the Accubonds to shoot in my 25-06.
So far no luck with RL-19 and 22, IMR 7828, and H100V.
The best has been some 25 year old H4831 and some fresh H4831SC. But stiil not satisfied with 1 1/2" 5 shot groups.
I've been using Fed 215M mag match primers, thinking about some standard large rifle, but all I have is some old ones and can't seem to find them locally yet, although it seems like primers are getting easier to find.
I hate to pay the Haz Mat fee, not that I'm that cheap but I don't like to reward stupidity.
My efforts with the AB is mirrored with the 115gr. Berger Hunting VLD.
Also have some 115gr. Ballistic Tips and some 110gr. Hornady Interbonds to try out.
My rifle is a Marlin XL7C with a 22" barrel.

26" barrel, CCI Large Rifle primers, brass is new Nosler brass. I'm trying IMR 4350 with a magnum primer since I have it. Still searching for 4831. I'll post results. Thanks for the help folks!

try the 4350 one group with magnum and one group with standard primers just for fun

I still cant understand why the slower powders like retumbo are giving yo uproblems with the long tube

if you have rl 25 try it

Try rl22 and rl25. With the 110 ab and 57 gr of 25 i got .55" and 3260 fps.

4350 is a nogo. Gonna try RL 25. If that doesn't work I'll switch bullets. Ok I feel better now. Groups went from 3" with all others to .774 with RL 25. Considering the conditions(weather), I believe I found one that will work. If I want better I'll have to have someone else shoot them  Thanks to all

Glad you hung in there and found a load that works. Persistence pays off.

My switch from magnum primers to standard large rifle is really working for me. Went from 1 1/2" - 2" groups to 3/4" in 110gr Accubonds, 115gr Berger VLD, and 115gr Nosler BT. Powder is H 4831SC.

My .25-06 is kind of funny. It doesn't seem to like long bullets, but...

Initially, I wanted to shot a 120 Partition, but the gun thought otherwise. Then I went to a 117 Sierra, and again, groups were not stellar. I finally bought some old school 115 Barnes X and I got acceptable groups from them. Don't know what I'm gonna do when I shoot them all up.

It shoots 85 BTs pretty well.

I think I mainly loaded IMR- and H-4831, Fed LR Match primers.

BK, a .25-06 will kill things real dead using 100 gr bullets. No problem...

If you're concerned about bullet-blow up, use a Partition.
