250 ackley improved

anyone familiar with it? i've read that its the most efficient of the ackley line. just thinking about starting a new toy.

It is a great efficient little cartridge suited from varmints to deer.

Just left my Data from P.O. Ackley's book at home with the folks. If I remember correctly he was getting 3000fps+ with a 120 grainer. I do know it would best anything in 243 (heavier bullet faster). If my 250 savage didnt shoot so well I would consider rechambering it. Also case life was reported to be very good. +1 to whats already been said, it gave Ackley his greatest % of velocity improvement. Another hot one in .25 cal. (If I remember correctly) was made by necking down a 304 winchester case. The was a fella on this board that had one in a contender. Rimmed case worked well on that platform. I think he was getting around 2800 fps with that litttle barrel. Again this is all from memory....which aint what it used to be. Good round though. If you are addicted to the .25 too. There is always the 260/6.5, reportedly very good. I'll stick with my 250 Sav though. CL

i have no need for it really, got a ruger m77 and tc encore in .25/06 that both get 3200fps with nosler 110abs. just thought it would be neat to try something off the wall. i can get an ecnore barrel, but was thinking of a having a rem 700 rebarreled in 250AI

Yep I got a 25-06 on lay-a-away too. But it is a unique one, very able and efficient. Makes a 25WSSM look like the marketing gimick it is. Go for it! I would if I could. Let me know if you get one put together. CL
