Sometimes I break out my 257 Roberts AI, When I built it about 15 years ago I used 100 gr. BT's. Should I change to Accubonds. The BTs leave the rifle just over 3200 fps.

The 110gr ABs and 115gr PTs should rock in your 257AI. I am using the AB in my Bob, not AI'd, and they work fine.

I have loaded the 115gr BTs and the ABs in 25-06 and they have performed great as well. There's nothing wrong with a good shooting load using 100gr but I prefer the heavier bullets.

Edit - here's a link to a bullet catch for the 110gr AB:

freddogs,

Welcome to the forum; we're glad to have you aboard. If the BTs have been working for you, I don't know that I'd switch to the ABs. Perhaps you anticipate some tough critters that will require a bullet that will maintain integrity; otherwise, I'd keep right on using what works.

Thanks for the nice welcome.
I've only shot an antelope and a deer with this rifle. Sometimes I just like to shoot it because it lacks recoil and it's light to carry around. I also wanted a wildcat to play with. I like the velocity but I may try the heavier bullets to see how they shoot. You're never sure how fast a load is till you measure it.

I am with Mike here! Welcome aboard the forum and if those 100 grain BT's are working for you, I can't see messing with a good thing. Nosler does have some slick 257 caliber bullets, from the 85 grain BT up to the 120 PT. All of them have been excellent so far. Your post makes me wanna get my wife's 25-06 out and give them a whirl. Should be a screamer out of her rifle.

Any pictures of the 257 Improved?

I would have to take a picture and then figger out how to post it. It's built on a mauser action. I bought several years ago and had them rechambered into different stuff. I still have some in progress.

I use mostly the 100 Partitions in the .257 Roberts (full magazine) rifle that I have. I get about 3100 fps with sub MOA groups. I also am starting some load development with 110 Accubonds because the Nosler factory loads shoot so fast (3140 fps) and accurately that I want to see if I can equal their factory loads somehow?

Just for game the size of speed goats your 100 gr BT is perfect. If you want to extend the distance you shoot this size game out to between 300 and 500 yards and have a little bit better bullet in the wind just move up to the 115 BT. I have not found a single White Tail deer that can tote off a well placed 115 ballistic tip or 117 Sierra between 3000 and 3100 muzzle from my 25-06. 99% of the time it is bang flop out to a little over 500 yards. The 25's are very deadly on deer size game. Welcome to forum.
