Got out today with the .260 Remington CDL for the first time since it was bedded and floated. Was shooting three shot groups with the different powders today. The 130 grain AB was used for all groups. Three groups tried with H414; 41 grains - 1.25 inches, 42 grains - 1.23 and 43 grains - .957 inches. The other powder was R19; 43 grains - 1.35, 44 grains - .880 inches and than the sweet spot 45 grains - .477! This load is 104% of capacity, but doesn't seem to show any pressure signs. The chrony said 2839 for a high and 2828 for a low, not a bad spread. These were seated out as far as the magazine will allow (2.820). I can post a couple of pics if someone can help me figure out how to get them off photobucket.

Congratulations on the 260 Rem shooting so well. Re shoot that last load to verify accuracy and confirm your ES and SD. Soounds like you have a great load.

As for pictures.....
go to photobucket and highlight image and copy, go to your post and paste it. You are set to go.

Good job!

257 Ackley,

Good to hear you were able to get out today.

Even better to hear that RL-19 did the trick. That is a great powder ( from what I hear for several rounds... I've never been able to get it to shoot ) As JD stated.... shoot it again.... might even do a load with the BR primers too.

That is one thing I have noticed that both of mine definately shoot better with a max load of anything.

Congrats

I will definetly shoot this load again, along with the H414 load. There was a difference of about 40 fps between that and the fastest R19 load. I would have preferred to use H414, since it isn't over 100% of capacity.

Thanks for the info on picture posting. Maybe now I can do it again as long as I don't wait too long before I do it again

Happy to help!

The above group almost looks like you had a flyer in there. Re shoot that a couple more times to verify but I think you are there. Maybe a primer change and or slighter deeper seat of the bullet, but you are there.

Nicely done!

I have never had a rifle that was as difficult to make shoot up to expectations as this one. I still don't like the trigger and think it will be changed out for a Timmney soon. I really want to use it with the 130 AB this fall on an elk hunt. I guess it makes it sweeter when you do get the groups to fall in.

JD - why do you say to seat deeper? I made the change to Federal 210 from BR2 for the range yesterday and that seemed to help. The only other thing I thought to try was going to a magnum primer with the R19 to see if that made a difference.

The 130gr A-bond will definately put the hurt on an elk.

I believe JD shoots some BR's out of his 22-250?? I'd play back and forth just a little with those primers and probably call it good I mean excellent.

What reticle do you have in that scope?

I'm going out this morning to try both the BR2 and the 210 primers with H414 and R19 to see how much difference there is. Will let you know what I find out. I was still thinking about trying the R17 again to see what happens with that powder now that the rifle is finally shooting decent groups.

The scope has the German #4 reticle. I was on Cameraland NY about a month ago and found a 3.5X10 with this reticle for $529. I took off the 3X9 Zeiss that was on the rifle and put the 3.5X10 on it. I find my eye aquires the target quicker with the German #4 than any other reticle. I have the same reticle in my Swaro 3X9 that sits on my 7mm08.

Joel, that is a great combo and excellent speed out of the 130. I can't think of an elk that wouldn't want to get shot by that load. High SD and BC should make a deadly combo, plus, it looks like a fantastic carrying rifle. That 260 has evaded me a little, but I will get one eventually. You could mess with it some more, but heck, an elk will never notice! Scotty

I had terrific luck with 4831sc and the 130 AccuBond at 2.80 with my 700 Mtn in .260. I totally agree very difficult to find the magic load.

makes me feel a little bad cause my model 7 likes several powders and with 100gr BT's and PT's im shooting .5 and around .75. and with just the best book loads. the best part of the seven is 6.5 lbs scoped and light recoil. But so far ive tried IMR 4350 with 120gr BT's and Varget with 100's and IMR4064 with the 100,s and i have yet to go wrong or over an inch.

47.5 grs AA3100 & 130gr AccuBond is my favorite load in my 700 Titanium. 2900 fps and pretty decent accuracy for a rig that tips the scales at 6 lbs scoped :)
