Man, I'm a piker in the overlap area. You fellows are giving me an inferiority complex.

But what about the 243, 6.5 swede, 7mm-08, 280 and on and on
Just like golf, you can't play the game with just one club. ;)

JD338

That maybe true of golf but beware the man who only owns one rifle because he knows how to use it.

The last quote is the one I'd be most worried about...... it's like a great ball player, he'll take you out with it in one throw, practice makes perfect! I don't care what you use, if you're proficient with something you have a great skill, that skill is learn through usage, with that comes effectiveness, knowing something inside and out is the key! Doesn't matter if it's a rock or a small stone, it's going to hurt!

Love the 264. My load isn't hot but sure has been a good interior decorator for my home putting lots of heads on the wall. I shoot a 140gr Berger VLD at 2950fps or a 140gr AccuBond at 3000fps with 60gr of H4831SC. I have a 25" barrel.

That's a great set up, the CDL is one of the best looking guns around. The 3.5-10x40 is what I have on my 264 WM and is a very good choice too.

Gerry says it!

That is a sweet combination.

Remington, are you paying attention??????????????????????????

Very nice,

You guys stop posting all these pictures of beautiful rifles in calibers I don't have!

Some seriously attractive pictures in this thread and the .264 looks like a gem of a cartridge.

It is a great cartridge that deserves more attention than it has received over the years.

Eric, that's a sweet 264 buddy. RL25 works very well for me with 140's. Bet It'd do really well with those Hornadys as well. I'm betting an easy 3300 out of them from that long tube. Retumbo would be very good well. Congrats on such a great looking rifle.

Well, if we're going to show of 264's.... :)

Here are a few of my own modest representative of the caliber in a Winny:

When I first acquired it.

In the stand, doing what it's supposed to do...HUNT!

Fine looking rifle, Tom. Heck, its pretty enough that even if it didn't shoot, it'd make you feel good carrying it. However, being a Winchester, I have no doubt it performs quite well.

I did manage to miss with it on that hunt...from the stand in my 3rd pic. The buck was at the very end of the lane you can see, which is 150 yards. I had the rifle rested on the rail, Swaro at 12x, and felt good about the shot. It was, however, at the VERY first light, and I believe I had a combination of a faintly visible reticle (that I thought was more visible than it really was) and a bit of parallax as well. When I hunted the same spot the next morning and used the same light conditions to piece it all together, the conclusion I came to was that I likely shot higher than intended.

I did shoot a doe at about 75-100 yards on the last night, though, and the damage was substantial. Shot her broadside through both shoulders with a 140AB that left the muzzle at 3200. Both shoulders were a total loss. "DRT" doesn't quite do justice to the deer's "reaction" to the shot. It was quite conclusive. The exit wound in the hide was 3/4" to 1" across. Beneath that, the exit in the muscle tissue was about 2-3" across.

That was my first animal with the 264, and while I had no reason to doubt it, it instilled in me a complete sense of faith in the rifle and load I'm using.

There is no question but that the 264 WM is a great cartridge; it will enforce an invitation to accompany the shooter when it is issued to any deer (mulie or whitetail) placed in such a position.

Only if said invitation is properly delivered!

And thank you to the group for the compliments on the rifle. It was a nail-biter of a gunbroker experience to get that one, but it was apparently meant to be. :)

I have the same rifle 700 cdl special edition in 264wm, I put a HS precision stock on mine- because the barrel channel was not cut right if u touched the barrel it would move to the side, also the black plastic nose cap was started to get scraped up for hunting and green plastic was showing through. I like the looks of a would stock better- but wanted the gun to shoot good.
