264 WM Or 270 WSM

Very nice shooting. I believe what you are saying about the 264 bullets, as they are sleek. Either way, I think with good, high BC bullets, it is hard to argue against either round. Like I said, I have a 270WSM and want a 264, but I don't think I would notice if one did anything any better than the other. Scotty

I guess I need to make it clear that I am not knocking the .270WSM. It is a great cartridge in its own right. I hunt with a lot of different rifles. I believe in finding a load that shoots good in your rifle and then practicing with it until you know it inside out at any range with which you will use it. I prefer the .264 for the longer fields because it has shown me that it can help me do my job. You will probably find it amusing that I am also known to carry .450 Marlin, 45-70s, .416s, .375s and what ever else I pick up as I go out the door. reflex264

Same here Reflex. I enjoy hunting with all of my rifles also! Never thought you were knocking anything. That sounds like fun to have that kind of range to zap deer! Scotty

It is a lot of hard work. we have to carry the dear out of the fields without damaging the beans. It does sharpen your shooting skills though. I have shot hundreds of deer while doing this. reflex264

This is going to be fun; even if a bullet had an infinite ballistic coefficient and retained its 3100 fps it will still take a half second to go 516 yards and will drop 4.9m or 16 feet, because all objects fall at 9.8m per sec unless it has wings or shot in the opposite direction than gravity. Thus a bullet shot line of sight at 100 yards will not fall only 12 or so on a whitetail at 560 yards. This would at least need to be 3 inches above line of sight at 100 with scope 1.5 inches above barrel.Math is the basis in which everything from your gun, to travelling the stars have been made possible and discovered. Now let me say that i believe that you have made these shots, because i have made a few myself eg;500 yards on bull moose with a 180grn 303 brittish, a 550 yard shot on a yote with my 257 wm 100 grn tsx at 3500 fps aiming roughly 24 inches high, a muley at 374 yards 150grn 303 brittish at 24 inches above back, all one shot kills with all guns sighted 3 inches at 100 or higher. I always know my guns i shoot and make the shot count, but i know without a doubt that no gun holds the holy grail of ballistic supremacy. :p  8)

If you ever need a hand slaying deer, let me know, I will bring my 270WSM shooting 150gr Nosler BT's at 3100. We can give our rifles a good run down! That sounds like a lot of fun! Scotty

Hey Enfield Fan. We are not talking about sighting in -0- at 100 yards. We are talking about -0- at 340 yards. Sighted in this manner the gun according to the computer is shooting about 2' flatter at 560 yards than it is supposed to. It is 9" flatter at 411 yards than it it supposed to be. Using the same sight it on other rifles will put them completely off of a deer sized target at 560 yards with the same hold. No wings, no magic, no rocket motor on the bullet. Not being smart, I am just making sure you understand what is actualy taking place. Using this rifle sighted in this way I can hold the diamond in the middle of the ribs and make a clean kill at 430 yards. The last deer I shot while using this rifle crop sniping was 485 yards away. I held the first stadia down in the middle of the ribs and made a middle lung shot. I have yet to shoot anything else that shot this flat. I am thinking about doing a 6.5 STW to get more of the same. reflex264
