I've been doing barrel break-in and load development on my Dad's Mauser 98 re-barrel. It is a 26" X-caliber 8 twist. Seems like it wants to be a shooter.

Anyway, I shot 50 rounds of new Norma brass on Saturday during break-in. Then on Sunday I sized, trimmed, and started doing load development. After shooting these, I measured 10 cases for water capacity, and the average was 88.3gr.

I'd like to get a QL workup on 130 and 140gr Accubonds. Here is the load data and velocity results over my Oehler 35:

Norma brass
GM 215M primer
64g Retumbo
140 AccuBond
2950fps average

Norma brass
GM 215M primer
59gr Alliant 4000-MR
130 AccuBond
2985fps average

I'm almost at book max with the 140, but haven't seen the slightest hint of pressure yet, and still have lots of case capacity left.

Thanks!
-Gene

A 26" barreled 264 should easily get over 3100 with 140's using Retumbo, RL25's and similar. 3250-3300 with the same powders is pretty easy as well. I'd keep adding the coal to the load. You've got room to work.

I'm at 66.0 grains of Retumbo with a 140 AccuBond and fed 215. When up to 67 or 67.5, don't recall which and got pressure signs so I settled at 66.0

Now that the season is over, tinkering on this load workup again with some different bullets.

Looks like she really likes RL-22 and a 129g ABLR.

Dr.Mike, can you run the QL on this combination? Thanks!
